Two Whitehorse residents remain in jail after being arrested Tuesday on drug charges, obstructing a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon.
Riverdale resident Kimberly Mulholland of Bell Crescent appeared in court Wednesday on charges of trafficking in cocaine, possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and carrying a concealed knife.
Mulholland, 39, is scheduled to appear in court again on April 23.
Bart Butler of Klondike Crescent in Riverdale appeared Wednesday on charges of possessing cocaine, possessing codeine and obstructing a police officer by grabbing an exhibit and throwing it away.
Butler, 54, is scheduled to appear again Friday.
Police seized 13 grams of crack cocaine and $1,000 cash during the arrest.
An RCMP investigation team observed what appeared to be a number of drug transactions in front of a local hotel at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, says an RCMP press release issued Wednesday afternoon.
"The female driver of the vehicle was approached by several people who offered what appeared to be cash in exchange for what appeared to be crack cocaine,” says the press release.
"Following several of these open transactions, the vehicle exited the area and was stopped.
"A male passenger was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine. The female driver was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a quantity of cash.
"A subsequent search of the involved vehicle yielded paraphernalia associated with the drug trade and a further quantity of crack cocaine.”
RCMP Const. Christine Grant said this morning the fact that the transactions occurred in broad daylight should say something about the extent of the problem.
"There's obviously demand out there,” said Grant.
"There is demand out there, and it's time to say how best can our community bring this demand down because it is hurting out people.”
Anyone with any information regarding drug trafficking is encouraged to contact the RCMP, says the press release.

Great job. Glad the RCMP acted on the suspicious behaviour. Crack dealers and especially meth dealers are extremely bad news and should be removed from circulation. The destruction they cause is immense, and they could not care less. I wonder what the record is on these two already. Doubt very much this is their first time around the block.
Good work RCMP!

"Ben"….Did you read the article? They got the cash and the crack that they were in possession of. This is not subjective. They were dealing drugs and they got caught. What part of that do you not understand?????

Crack cocaine is highly addictive and is ruining way more lives then cocaine ever did!
Whitehorse and all the small outlying communities are infested with the stuff.
All the power to the RCMP and SCAN to clean this up. The low lifes that sell the crap should be jailed and then kicked out of the territory!

How can cops naturally assume that people were giving her money from a distance and not a letter or a paper message?
Then how does the cops say she gave that person what appeared to be crack cocaine? I sat in that bar they were talking about and saw many transactions. I assumed it was drugs but not once could I tell if it was crack cocaine, heroine, or even pot and I was at the very next table many of the times.
So how can the cops tell what kind of drugs it was? Especially from sitting across the street. I thought the drug has to be analyzed in the lab before anybody can know for sure.
I say both of our Whitehorse residences should be released because the police stopped and searched the vehicle because of assumptions.
