Pair charged after Watson Lake property crimes

Two people have been arrested in relation to several property offences in the Watson Lake area.

Two people have been arrested in relation to several property offences in the Watson Lake area.

“A series of property crimes have been occurring in Watson Lake over the last several days,” Watson Lake RCMP said Thursday.

“Incidents of theft from vehicles, distraction thefts and trespass by night have been reported. Arrests have been made in relation to theft from vehicle incidents.”

Jedine Medcalfe-Sterriah, 31, has been charged with three counts of the possession of property obtained by crime and has been released by the courts on conditions.

Allen Yaklin, 30, has been charged with three counts of the possession of property obtained by crime and one count of the unauthorized possession of a firearm, and has been released by the courts on conditions.

Both will make their next court appearance in Whitehorse on June 14.

The firearm was recovered safely by police and is not believed to have been used in the commission of any property crimes.

“The investigation into other incidents is continuing,” police said.

“Residents of Watson Lake are encouraged to ensure that their vehicles are locked when not in use and that any suspicious activity should be reported to police.”
