The territory’s candidates from the NDP and Green Party didn’t have much to say about the results of Monday’s federal election.

The territory’s candidates from the NDP and Green Party didn’t have much to say about the results of Monday’s federal election.

Lisa Vollans-Leduc of the NDP congratulated Brendan Hanley, the Liberal candidate and provisional winner, on his probable victory in a Facebook post Monday night.

Earlier in the evening, Vollans-Leduc said, “I don’t understand how not everyone in the country can’t vote around (NDP Leader) Jagmeet Singh.

“He is an incredible leader for the movement we ware bringing to the country, and it isn’t ending with this election.”

As for Hanley, Vollans-Leduc said, “I hope he moves forward in a good way.

“I hope he is accountable for the decisions the Liberal Party makes. And that he tries to move forward with respectful reconciliation.”

The NDP candidate plans to keep a careful eye on his efforts.

“I want to know what he brings forward on our behalf.”

As for her political future, Vollans-Leduc said, “I was just excited to run.

“People know about me now, and I hope we continue with our work.

“We worked really hard, and I think we made an impact in our territory. I really felt in my element running in this campaign.”

Vollans-Leduc was not available to the Star for further comment this morning.

Lenore Morris from the Green Party said, “I think it went well. We had to be very organized.

“By the time election day came, we were all exhausted. It was a sprint, not a marathon.”

Being a second-time candidate lent her some advantages, Morris said.

“I think I was a more polished candidate than the newcomers,” she said.

“I felt personally responsible to have a candidate, which is why I ran again, but I hope the next election will be more than 23 months from now.”

Morris said her favourite part of the campaign were the debates.

“I like the forums, but I wish there were real debates. I think environmental and climate change issues are the most important, but it’s dropped off because of COVID and some other issues.”

Morris missed the first half of the campaign due to a prior commitment to a kayaking excursion in British Columbia.

She did not respond to the Star’s requests for an interview this morning.

Jonas Smith, who ran as an independent candidate, turned in an impressive performance with more than 2,000 votes.

“I was very happy with the last five weeks and how my team has performed,” said the man who was the territory’s Conservative candidate in 2019.

As for running as an independent, Smith apparently relished the experience.

”It’s been a liberating experience, and I would definitely do it again,” he said.

His team said they would wait for the results to be finalized before offering more comment.

Election officials began counting more than 2,000 mail-in and special ballots this morning.

Leduc can't understand why the whole country didn't vote for Singh. What la la land are you living in comrade?

Actually Mr Singh did quite well. I thought he was going to lose 1/2 of his candidates as he did in 2019.

Oh dear. If the NDP candidate was correctly quoted, she should take a public speaking course before running again. She is quoted as saying "I don’t understand how not everyone in the country can’t vote around (NDP Leader) Jagmeet Singh."
