Premier Darrell Pasloski has extended an invitation to official Opposition Leader Liz Hanson and Liberal Leader Sandy Silver to join the Yukon delegation at the United Nations’ climate change meeting in Paris.

Prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau had invited all 13 premiers to join him on the trip.

“I am pleased to have the leaders of the other parties join me at this conference in order to collectively increase our knowledge of climate change and share best practices,” Pasloski said in a statement today.

Also representing the territory will be climate change youth ambassador Sabrina Clark and officials from the Department of Environment.

The 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) will take place in Paris from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.

It will be the ninth COP meeting attended by Yukon delegates.

Maybe some meaningful results will come out this trip. Maybe someone well see the light. Nothing worse can take place.

Hello Yukon delegates. While in Paris, here are a just a few questions that Yukoners want answered.......

How will a carbon tax, (paid to and administered by an offshore for-profit private-owned exchange who will be exempt) do anything to reduce carbon emissions?

Despite decades of research and trillions of private and public (mostly public) funds spent to finance "alternative energy" projects and technology, how much longer do we have to wait and how many more trillions are to be spent before have a viable alternative to fossil fuels?

Is carbon dioxide really a toxic substance?

We will be waiting for a full report.

@just sayin
Your use of the term 'lefties' and calling Trudeau 'Justine' really makes you sound intelligent. Keep up the good work scholar!

@individual "many hours of meeting people, discussing ideas, developing relationships."

Yes, a social event on the taxpayers dime. Nobody from the Yukon needs to go to Paris for a Climate Social event. Yukoners total contribution to perceived 'climate change' is infinitesimal. Video/internet participation is more than adequate.

Boy the lefties on this page can't even figure out who caused this??? Justine Trudeau said he was going and told all Premiers and Government leaders to attend. It was his idea. He is supplying the flights and footing the bill. Read a little bit guys. Personally I don't think any of them should be going, but direct your wrath in the correct direction.

You are so far from the truth on this one folks. It not about hotels, trip, it's about a lot of hard work and many hours of meeting people, discussing ideas, developing relationships. Some of the comments are far off the mark and meaningless.

Moose 101, I'm not talking about the same page, I'm talking about wasting taxpayers money on expensive foreign trips. Nice moniker by the way.

If they truly cared about Climate Change, Sustainability, GlobalWarming, CarbonFootprint, etc., then they would use that expensive video system the taxpayers bought them and they would participate in the conference by video/internet link. That would allow far more Yukoners to watch and interact, would use far less energy and pollute significantly less.

However that would be practicing what they preach, and we all know it's really about those 'free' junkets to far off places to stay in expensive hotels and live large like celebrities on the taxpayers dime. Such fine hypocrites, pretending to be 'leaders'.

Now we have all the parties in the same room getting the same information at the same time. Let's see what they can accomplish. This is a great idea and the Yukon Party will be gone after the next election according to some Yukon Party members and the Liberals will form the next government in the Yukon.

The group for a better government

Bobby B is correct. By not sending reps to Paris we would make a statement that we truly do care about reducing our carbon footprint. Walk the walk so to speak. All that is needed for the Yukon to participate in Paris is an internet connection.

JC you talk in circles. It's nice to see Darrell and Justin on the same page trying to work together and not like you that put a negative spin on everything .

And if they had a lot of integrity, they would choose not to fly in a jumbo jet across the ocean just to 'show colours' from Canada. The hypocrisy is insane.

Our new PM has learned early how to use up the workers taxes. When Stephen Harper refused to do this they accused him of being inclusive. But at least he saved the tax payers money. But then, leftist can never do anything wrong. Haven't heard any complaints coming out of the leftist media, and guess I never will.

What an utterly bizarre suggestion. It's bad enough that one individual on a junket is 'representing' the Territory. This is just the Pharmacist's transparent attempt to deflect responsibility away from himself and onto others so that he can wail about 'well you were all in Paris for COP21 as well as me, so it's not all MY fault'. We'd all like a tax-payer funded jaunt to Paris for some Xmas shopping, but some of us have to exercise some restraint and responsibility. Pathetic.

wasteful tax dollars on Oct 29, 2015 at 3:24 pm

Waste of money. Just another free trip for them on the tax payers dollar. What will really get accomplished? It'll be another "I was there but not actually allowed to do anything" event like Nelson Mandela's funeral. Going because you can and not because you actually have general interest. Shame
