Premier Sandy Silver and Dr. Catherine Elliott
There wasn’t a great deal of new information this morning from Premier Sandy Silver or Dr. Catherine Elliott, the acting chief medical officer of health.
There wasn’t a great deal of new information this morning from Premier Sandy Silver or Dr. Catherine Elliott, the acting chief medical officer of health.
There are currently 52 active cases of COVID-19 in the territory. None are of the Omicron variant which is sweeping the country, Elliott told the weekly briefing.
Last week, Elliott reported there were two cases of that variant in the Yukon. Those people have now recovered, she said today.
She is anticipating Omicron will become the dominant variant in the Yukon eventually, and the government will reveal the numbers of Omicron cases as they arise.
“Tighten your seat belt,” she cautioned.
There are some indications the existing vaccines will not be as effective against the new variant, she said, although booster shots may provide additional protection.
Elliott said the situation with the COVID-19 outbreak in the territory is stabilizing. The Yukon is averaging eight new cases a day.
However, tests are showing a 12 per cent positivity rate, indicating there are many infections going undetected.
“But the results show we can manage the outbreak with the layers of protections we have,” Elliott said.
Silver gave a brief update of the situation on the government’s vaccine mandate. He said the number of permanent full-time employees who have not been vaccinated has dropped to 90 people from 107 last week. That means 94.5 per cent of YG employees have received their first shot, he said.
Most of the holdouts are still within the ranks of casual and on-call employees, he added. A little more than three per cent of that sector still haven’t provided the proper vaccination document to government officials.
There is also some confusion reigning as to the reach of the government’s vaccine policy.
On Tuesday afternoon, a school bus driver contacted the Star to ask if there is an explanation as to why drivers are exempted from the mandate considering their connection with the education system.
Standard Bus Lines, which provides school busing around the territory, did not return calls on the subject from the Star.
Silver seemed to be caught off-guard by the question, saying he could not confirm if that is the case or not. He said he would investigate the matter.
Silver also said Yukoners should expect the federal government to announce some restrictions for international travel. Those measures were announced while the briefing was ongoing (see p. 11).
Elliott discussed an outbreak of COVID-19 currently happening in Old Crow. There are four active cases there, with two recoveries, she said.
A rapid response team is on the ground helping with the situation, which has prompted a lockdown of the village by Vuntut Gwitchin officials. That lockdown is scheduled to last until Christmas Eve.
Elliott took time as well to discuss in some depth why the Yukon government isn’t making use of the nearly 36,000 rapid test kits provided to it by the federal government.
She said, as she has on numerous previous occasions, that she doesn’t feel confident in the rapid antigen tests, which are commonly used. Elliott has more good things to say about rapid molecular test, which she considers more accurate.
While both tests are “easy to use, they aren’t as simple as chewing gum,” Elliott said. “We use them when appropriate.”
That cautious approach is at odds with what other jurisdictions in Canada are doing.
This morning, Alberta announced it will make the kits available to the general public as part of new COVID-19 measures it’s introducing.
Elliott added that she prefers the widespread lab tests, as she considered them more accurate and they can also identify the variant causing a COVID-19 infection.
The rapid molecular tests are being made available to hospitals and some other sectors, Elliott said.
The public health team is discussing whether to make more use of the tests, which she said is the “wave of the future.”
Officials are watching how the test are being used across Canada before committing themselves to more use.
“It’s not a completely straightforward situation,” she said.

Omicron is a cold. That's what the data tells us. it's a cold! Only a lunatic psychopath would want to shutdown society or put any measures in place at all to fight a cold. It's what the data shows. Period.
The data also shows those vaxes are a waste of time costing taxpayers billions... including pushing them for this common cold AND doing so with little children who's immune system doesn't require help nor are they 'spreaders'.

I'm glad your symptoms were mild and that you recovered. Sadly, that's not the case for everyone. And I hope you didn't inadvertently spread it to someone who was less fortunate. I often think of the local fellow who caught it and spread it to his mom, who passed away this past summer- imagine living with that for the rest of your life.

So two doses didn't stop even regular covid, but let's do another? Cause that will work?
Who keeps bringing covid and now all variants here? Cause unvaccinated can't travel, so………. Hmmm……..
But we must stop the unvaxxed from having jobs or traveling or sitting at a restaurant?, cause clearly!! they are the contributing factor?
So vaxx won't stop u carrying it, won't protect you from getting it, but a third outta do it?
Logic!?

The easiest way to get over it is to catch covid. I was like you once. Religiously wore an N95, got panicked when people wouldn't keep their distance, washed my hands constantly, never took the vax though because that was even more sketchy than the Chinese bioweapon.
Then one day, I caught COVID. I had done my research, I knew there was almost zero chance it would kill or hospitalize me, but it was kind of scary, and defeating. And then, after 4 days I was all better. 4 days, only for 2 of which I had a measurable fever. I felt fine the entire time. I mowed my grass at the peak of my symptoms. Then it was gone. A full year and some change of panic and fear over what was the mildest virus I have ever contracted. All that worry for nothing.
I know you won't take my word for it, because how can you? However, consider the following: At some point literally everyone who isn't a total hermit will catch COVID. Doesn't matter if you are vaccinated, if you wear a mask, or if you pray to Sandy Silver. You will catch it. Once you find out how mild it is, your fear will be replaced by complete apathy for every fear tactic they throw at you.
The truth will literally set you free, and you can't know the truth without first hand knowledge.

The LIB gov is guilty of twisted logic - injecting healthy children (who have practically minuscule risk) with unproven, no liability, experimental drugs to supposedly protect the elderly.
“Never in human history have old people required young people to take risks, make sacrifices and die to preserve older people. We have a fiduciary duty to our children. Old people sacrifice themselves for children in a moral society, in a robust society, in a society that we are proud of. We do not tell children to take risks to preserve old people.
We need to stand up and take a moral choice and an ethical choice for our children.” — Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. testimony before Louisiana State Legislature.

I now fully understand that absolutely everything the govt does is only to badger and coerce us into getting C0vaxed. The more they push the more distrustful I become, and the stronger my commitment to resist.
In retrospect I'm actually thankful the govt is 'tipping their hand' with the blatant unrelenting coercion. If the C0vax had been offered as a normal voluntary 'flu shot' I might have been tempted, but now it's NFW, Not now or ever again. I'm not getting jabbed ever again with anything or committing to any medical procedure that requires full anesthesia.

Elliott said. “We use them when appropriate.”
Well that sums it up appropriately, doesn't it? The rapid tests are only for those at the top of the heap, not the 'little people' down here at the bottom. We can be sure they will each be taking a few when they go to Vancouver for their sports soiree. But hey, give them to Yukoners to use over the holidays for some peace-of-mind? Oh no, that would be "inappropriate".
Chief Medical Officer of Hubris would be a more appropriate title for this revolving chair position.

The other newspaper had a quote from Catherine Elliott that I missed before, that she prefers people not to test themselves at home because that doesn't allow health professionals to give them science-based advice on how to self-isolate in order to reduce infection.
So in her opinion having people leave the house and line up somewhere is the superior option, simply because it permits a more interventionist approach by health professionals. Which, let's face it, would only amount to the same stuff we've heard every single day for 20 months.
Never mind that supposedly we're trying not to tax the healthcare system, and that daily we're reminded of staff shortages, only exacerbated by the vaccine mandate.
That's why it's just wrong for Sandy Silver to allow this one person to obstruct access to these kits. She has clearly expressed her low opinion of the Yukon population and her high opinion of her own opinion. That paternalistic attitude has long dogged the Yukon medical system.
She'd rather attempt to sedate us with some trite advice to take in the sparkles on the snow than release the "tools" that were sent for us to use.

Canada's national vaccine injury compensation program has so far received 400 claims of vaccine injury.
400.
That’s it.
And those are claims. They have not been proven (so far only 5 have been accepted as true).
So if there is this out of control pandemic of vaccine related injuries why are the injured parties not reporting them?
Or could it be possible that the loud but minority anti vaxxers are making it all up?
Millions have been vaccinated. Multiple times. Yet hospitals and medical clinics are not being overrun with vaccine injured people.
Go ahead and back up your replies with actual numbers (like I have). Save me your “well I saw on Facebook” or “I know a guy who has a neighbor…”

Second term in office and the vision of our leaders is still :
"Keeping you all Safe?"
Obviously, most of us would never claim such an ability, now would we? Just a bit pretentious I would say, but all that aside, how is THE VISION being implemented? By doing the same things so many other countries have done, all of which has been proven to be totally ineffective against the common covid.
Nice "vision" guys. I hope someday, one of you will come up with a real actual vision for the future, something maybe inspiring, achievable and worth working towards perhaps?
In the meantime, I guess your entire vision for the people of the Yukon can be summed up in two simple words: "Buckle Up".

It's an interesting phenomena when those who mock belief in GOD, who they cannot see, have no problem accepting the existence of a bug they cannot see.
And not only do they fully believe in this bug, but they so alter their lives in service to this invisible bug, that basic life functions become nearly impossible for themselves. Not content with that, they proselytize at every opportunity and force their beliefs down the throats of all those around them.
Amazing.

While both tests are “easy to use, they aren’t as simple as chewing gum,” Elliott said. “We use them when appropriate.”
Wow. Just wow.
This is both offensive and inappropriate. In the span of 15 words she has managed to insult or offend basically everyone. If one could prove that they can chew gum and maybe like walk or pat their belly at the same time might they become eligible for consideration to use some of the 35000 tests of which "0" have been used? Or at least be considered as potentially part of a training program so that we may be part of the "wave of the future"?
This is all very maddening and the only thing in this article that makes sense is the part where it says “It’s not a completely straightforward situation,”......no....no it's not.
80,000,000 distributed nationally. 15,000 used. That is .0002 percent used while the rest sit somewhere idle because apparently if it's any more complicated than chewing gum we can't be trusted to use them in an intelligent manner.
“We use them when appropriate.” Looking at the numbers that sounds a lot like never.

From the science I have been getting the Omicron variant is not a real danger as it is less powerful than that of the other variants. Which means that it may be possible that variants are decreasing and in the future will be no more dangerous than a common cold. It appears that Elliot as with her predecessor Hanley, is just parroting what she is hearing from outside.
Now, it's time to stop frightening people. If you don't know the real facts, stay quiet and let us enjoy the holiday season. Also, the Yukon has surpassed 90% vaccinated. We have gone over the early figures for herd immunity. So it's time to take off these stupid masks so we can breath fresh air again instead of breathing back our own bacteria, which will eventually make us sick. Elliot is a medical doctor, she should know something about that.

Yukon has been totally let down with their CMOHs.
The first one was in Spain when Covid hit (what foresight). Then he quit during the middle of the pandemic to run for politics.
We've had 3 acting CMOHs. One from BC, never to be heard from again. Andre from NWT, for some weird reason. And Elliott, who immediately vanished for a perfect two weeks after calling for a circuit breaker.
Who cares what Elliott has to say? I don't see her as an authority at all. She barely seems to keep up with the news. Hanley was bad for this, and somehow Elliott is worse.

Meanwhile, here's what our "medical" officials, politicians and preferred "experts" are ignoring:

* lifestyle changes (including diet and exercise)

"The rapid molecular tests are being made available to hospitals and some other sectors"
I believe these are illegal to use in the workplace due to the Genetic Non-Discrimination Act. It is a criminal offence.
"There are some indications the existing vaccines will not be as effective against the new variant".
But we are still forcing people to take it despite it being proven beyond a doubt there are heart conditions resulting from it. We are still discriminating against the people who had enough common sense to know it was experimental, dangerous, and had no evidence of being effective.
"though booster shots may provide additional protection". May!
Well there's some science for you. Are people's passports going to expire if they don't take the booster that "may" provide additional protection? The boosters WILL increase your risk from adverse reactions. Just because someone is released from the hospital with Myocarditis, doesn't mean they are healed. They will die within the next 5 years.
Queue the next 3 shots for Omicron. I believe there is a group of whack job antiscience people that predicted this exact outcome. Perfect timing for the kids to get the shot by the way.
"Elliott discussed an outbreak of COVID-19 currently happening in Old Crow" I was going to ask if an asymptomatic unvaxxed person walked there, but at this point it is just beating a dead horse.
The good news is that this variant appears to be as deadly as the common cold. It should really be spun to show how effective the vaccine is since no one is dying. Tough to add more restrictions with that narrative though.
It took 2 weeks to go from "Take the shot or lose your job" to "Buckle up, the shot doesn't work". The only reason most people took the shot is to travel. How's that working out now? I guess they ran out of carrots, all you get now is stick.
Let's see how awful they can make our lives in the upcoming days. The hardest part of the 2 weeks to flatten the curve is after 20 months when they tell you the 3 shots don't work.
What's the best way to protect ourselves? It was left out of this article.

"There are some indications the existing vaccines will not be as effective against the new variant, she said, although booster shots may provide additional protection." The vaccines are not effective against Alpha or Delta, are even less effective against Omicron and yet somehow the speculative answer is a booster? Pure politics. ~ 20 months in and we still do not treat prior or post infection unless hospitalization is required, which is insane.
"...indicating there are many infections going undetected."
Just like Alpha and Delta, the vast majority of cases are mild. Which is excellent as the sooner more people gain real immunity the sooner this will be over. Unless the vaccinated have handicapped their immune system (OAS/ADE) through mRNA vaccines.
