Number of public servants on job remains stable

There hasn’t been much change in the status of the territorial public service under the COVID-19 vaccine mandate over the Christmas break.

By Tim Giilck on January 6, 2022

There hasn’t been much change in the status of the territorial public service under the COVID-19 vaccine mandate over the Christmas break.

John Streicker, the minister responsible for the Public Service Commission, provided the latest numbers to the Star this morning.

He said the percentage of government workers is holding steady at just below 95 per cent for full-time permanent staff.

Ninety-five full-time staff are on unpaid leave. Amongst the on-call, casual and seasonal workers, 187 people haven’t turned in their documentation.

Streicker, as he has said before, isn’t expecting the seasonal workers to respond to the government’s request until they’re scheduled to resume their duties.

So far, 25 requests for exemptions have been accepted. Approximately six more are making their way through the process.

Some of the 95 people on unpaid leave have had their applications rejected, Streicker said.

That has held the numbers stable amongst the full-time ranks.

He said he believes many of the remaining people are entrenched in their beliefs, and are unlikely to agree to be vaccinated against the virus.

“I want to make it a point once again to say I thank these people for their service to the Yukon,” Streicker said.

Public service workers have until the end of the month to provide proof they are fully vaccinated with at least two shots. The mandate policy was initially announced on Oct. 15, 2021.

At Wednesday’s weekly COVID-19 briefing, the acting chief medical officer of health, Dr. Catherine Elliott, fielded questions as to what constitutes fully a in light of the booster shots many people are receiving.

“Like it or not, there are now two definitions of fully vaccinated: two shots and three shots,” she said.

There has been no word from the government as to whether it will make three shots the new official policy.

Hello Jeff and others - Wha? And the Hammer are just being oppositional. It is what individuals who have disdain for responsible thought do. They either lack, or refuse to activate the insight necessary to make informed opinions of the world around them - They revel in conflict and they actively foster that conflict through their skirmishes with reality, rejecting it, reshaping it to fit their inner dialogue.

However, it is also likely that their assertions are fear-based manifestations of their anxiety over lockdowns, mask mandates, and shutdowns etc. The perfect storm of medical-fascism and governmental incompetence to induce Stockholm Syndrome in their absconding with the intellectual commons. Kneeling before their YG masters who adapt their functioning in the style of a Yukonized, Joseph Goebbels.

Tyranny requires redress and Wha?, and the Hammer demonstrate dangerousness of the passivity of sheep!

Off the top of my head I would say step 4 is Human Capital Markets, but your 5 step plan is a bit of a simplistic assessment of the situation.

I’m always fascinated by you tinfoiled hat folk.
I’d like to know the end game of this global conspiracy.

1) Create a virus that kills a percentage of the population
2) Instill fear (I’m still waiting to be afraid, maybe I missed a memo)
3) Collapse global economy and supply chains
4) ???
5) Profit

Can you describe step 4 to us?

The delusion of Gov..etc. "See reality..." Your reality? I don't get the impression that's something you know anything about. More like you are suffering from an extreme state of cabin fever. Your references to politics, name calling, and literary flourishes of classic works don't alter the negative, hysterical and ugly tone of your comments. The works of Lewis Carrol have done nothing for your imagination and creative writing skills. Even the Mad Hatter seems to be more in touch with reality.

The delusion of government by and for the people is maintained through controlled ignorance… It is the base predicate for its power on Jan 10, 2022 at 1:03 am

Dear Teri - They knew from the beginning that the jab would not prevent COVID or its spread. They knew from the beginning that it was gene therapy because its primary effect is to tell your genetic material what protein to express to counter the virus.

The government and the medicrats such as the Village Elliot and Liberal Brandman Hanley deliberately provided mixed messaging to destabilize the electorate so they could back door their agenda with little or no oversight and no protestation from the people… They were too busy fighting with one another - You dirty unvaxxed… The great unwashed, the untouchable classes. The unvaxxed shouting at the sheeple, open your eyes, and see reality.

Lewis Carroll wrote a nonsensical poem about the killing of the Jabberwock… The title of the poem is Jabberwocky - This business about the jab being promulgated (both senses of the word) by the government and its truncheon wielding leftist autocrats of the friendly fascists is mere Jabberwocky!

I have not tried to contact anyone at YG but tried four departments at the City of Whitehorse including the general information line - I left messages on all of the message machines because that is all I got - no real person - and no one got back to me.
Must be great staying at home and getting your pay cheque every two weeks but not serving the public which is actually your job.

It is not Mr. Streicker's mandate. It is practically, or soon to be, a national mandate moving toward a global mandate. So to pin it on a single individual in a demonizing process is a bit of stretch. Keeping in mind in the West work is a fanatical religion.

Stephan Angerer@ "I call Mr. or sir for people I have respect for.." That is a disrespectful comment, undeniable. So you are hardly the standard bearer of respect. So, when you divide people into those whom you respect and don't respect, when ancient wisdom teaches one to have respect for all beings, you expose yourself as a conflicted person currently projecting your conflicted state of mind onto Yukon social life. Angerer is definitely your true, and appropriate name.

I’m vaccinated and I’m reluctant to get my booster as I see now this vaccine has side effects that I suffer from. Also, we thought at the time, by getting jabbed would mean we would be protected from getting Covid. Now things have changed over a short period of time with new variants etc., we now see the vaccine doesn’t protect us from getting Covid and we can still spread the virus unknowingly.
The unvaccinated should never be left out now that we know how this virus reacts. It doesn’t have anything to do with the unvaccinated. We can all spread it the same. I feel so bad for them because they are being left out of every opportunity because the government lays down the laws, saying the unvaxed are the ones who are spreading the virus! Doesn’t make sense!
Please don’t make a 3rd vaccine a mandate too, we are drained, sick and tired of all the changes every week, it’s making my head spin. There is more to consider than trying to vaccinate the sh*t out of this country and that’s the mental well-being of us all! Lord help us all!

@Mike "Speak for yourself please...". Perhaps you should follow your own advice.
"...but the majority of vaccinated people are regretting getting vaccinated..." I don't. See, I don't work for YG and I don't have a job that pays sick day benefits so my concern with contracting COVID was never death or even being in the ICU, it was what the hell was I going to do if I was off sick for 2 weeks and missed an entire pay. People should get off their high horses and maybe think about how others, not just themselves, would be impacted.

95% is excellent. From the comments, I would have expected a lower number. It appears that there is a only very small, but vocal, minority who choose not to comply. Thank you to everyone who has cooperated. I appreciate that some of that cooperation has been reluctant. I am hopeful that, with this type of number, we will find our way out of this and get back to normal.

It would be really nice if the minister dressed according to his political stature. I met with him once, formally, at his office in the legislature building. To that meeting he wore jeans and a hoodie that had a large food stain on the chest. Pretty much sums up the level of professionalism in the Yukon Liberal party.

Speak for yourself please, you wanna smooch the liberal ass feel free but the majority of vaccinated people are regretting getting vaccinated and the unvaccinated people are proud as hell and Curie has nothing to do with it. This liberal government has done everything in their minority power to destroy what was the Yukon and create a socialist dictatorship society. These doctors you keep getting to speak on behalf of the progress of the virus are as useless as the liberals. So save your praise for the mandates assigned by these people. The vaccinated are the creators of these variants not the unvaccinated. The long term damage this vaccine has done to our people is nothing short of deliberate by this liberal government because they have know the dangers of this vaccine yet they promoted it like it was a miracle. Well ask the vaccinated people who have ended up in hospital and who are still experiencing the tragic side effects of the vaccine.

Major problems here is the following:

Poor communications on the facts as they are and explain why things are changing by the day.
Politicians should let the medical people do what they must do to create the best outcomes.
This virus like most viruses change by the minute in some cases like they've done for 1,000's of years and will do into the future. Humans have no method of stopping this but just deal with it the best we can together as one group of humans for the interest of all.

But this and other politician can't keep their traps closed and just are making a mess of it.
Trudeau is using this situation to play politics to get votes and all must follow his actions like good little servants.

So if I am a government worker trying to get my job back, can I go straight to the third injection, seeing as the first two obviously don't work? According to the amount of cases, the 18 staff at Porter Creek School currently quarantined and the clear fact coming from studies worldwide, eg. Denmark and Germany, that Omicron infects more vaxxed per 100,000 than unvaxxed per 100,000?
We are entering our third Covid year with more Covid cases then ever before, but remember everything the government has been doing so far, including vaccines, has totally worked so we should definitely keep doing what the government wants us to do. That's a winning strategy right there!

I'm surprised there's 5% that are holding out, good for them. I know personally I could not afford to lose my job because of a mandate like this. I've got bills to pay and a career change out of a salary I've signed a mortgage on and bought vehicles with isn't exactly appealing.

Shame on anyone who believes someone should lose their job over a vaccine that doesn't prevent spread. The CMOH says it herself repeatedly. So where's the justification?
If an employer is requiring you to take medical intervention to retain said employment they should be compensating you for it. It doesn't go away when you clock out for the day. That injection is for life, there's no take backs.

There are documented adverse affects. Sure I'll concede those numbers are small but to cast them aside as acceptable risk is asinine, if even one employee falls in that category the employeer should be held responsible. This isn't a certificate or degree they said you needed to work, it's a medical intervention that could cripple you for life. All for what?

They masquerade it as work place safety without fully understanding the safety risks involved at all. Prove there is significant risk to other employees by having an unvaccinated worker in the work place and prove it out weighs the risk involved in complying with a medical intervention. Every employee has equal rights to a safe work space and that includes not having your employer threaten your livelyhood over medical interventions they refuse to acknowledge bears risks for the employees that take it. It's none of their business what you put in your body or don't.

The craziest part is now with the spread of omicron YTG employees have moved to almost entirely remote work, they aren't even in the office anymore. So how is an unvaccinated employee of any risk to anyone at all?
Better be careful your employer doesn't end up showing up at your house to ensure your home workspace is in compliance with all other safety measures required while at the office.

It's like a bad episode of black mirror.

Accurate information is needed on Jan 6, 2022 at 3:12 pm

Those who refuse the covid jab do so on the basis of information from reputable medical scientists whose reports of the risks and severe adverse reactions from these covid injections are routinely censored by the owned mainstream media.

Look up the Canadian Covid Care Alliance’s recent release of a thoroughly researched document entitled “More Harm Than Good”:
https://www.canadiancovidcarealliance.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/The-COVID-19-Inoculations-More-Harm-Than-Good-REV-Dec-16-2021.pdf

Politicians who are ignoring such information are demonstrating a callous disregard for their duty of due diligence. They’ve forgotten they’re supposed to represent their constituents, and get thoroughly informed. Instead they’ve become big pharma's sales clerks.

Up 67 Down 36

DL on Jan 6, 2022 at 3:01 pm

As for the claim of 'severity of covid illness' for the unvaxxed, be aware that many who have received one or even two covid jabs are considered as unvaxxed if their last shot was less than two weeks before hospital covid admission.

Those who refuse the covid inoculation do so because they are well informed or the risks and alternatives. They know what to do and are prepared to apply early treatment in case of worsening symptoms. Early treatment that is denied by our Canadian medical system. Look up the “Frontline Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance”.

Up 90 Down 37

DL on Jan 6, 2022 at 2:46 pm

There is no sound basis for this vax coercion. It’s now proven that the covid inoculations don't stop the spread of covid, since the unvaxxed have been segregated for months. Most of the spread is now FROM and WITHIN the inoculated population.

The government's own covid webpage states:
"The full series of the COVID-19 vaccine decreases the risk of severe illness and hospitalization but does not prevent people from becoming infected and transmission of the virus."
https://yukon.ca/en/news/early-sign-community-transmission-omicron-variant-yukon-new-recommendations-introduced

Consequently, there is no logical reason for segregating the unvaxxed from work or public places. To do so is immoral and unethical, and abuse of power. Rescind this mandate now.

Up 86 Down 37

Richard Smith on Jan 6, 2022 at 2:40 pm

This is purely revenge toward the unvaccinated employees put on unpaid leave by government arrogant dictators for following their conscience.
Recent developments clearly reveal vaccinations do not prevent covid, especially the omicron variant. Both the vacced and the unvacced catch and spread covid equally and the omicron variant is very mild.

There is an option to test these employees by rapid covid tests instead of firing them like the Calgary police do.
Those on unpaid leave cannot claim EI so the unnecessary hardships and devastation to them and their families is nothing short of unconscionable.

I work at a remote camp on the highway. I'm alone at the camp and I operate plow trucks and graders... alone! Don't you think a rapid test before I get in my grader would suffice??
