Nothing was amiss in Mountainview
Chief electoral officer Lori McKee has dismissed three allegations of wrongdoing in the Mountainview riding.
Chief electoral officer Lori McKee has dismissed three allegations of wrongdoing in the Mountainview riding.
McKee issued her findings Saturday following an investigation which included interviews with individuals or groups identified by the electoral officer as having pertinent information.
McKee concluded she believed there was no substance to the allegation the Liberals had contravened the process that allows for voting by proxy.
Electors who either expected to be out of the territory or expect to be in an isolated location in the Yukon on election day can designate somebody else to vote on their behalf.
“Based on the information provided to Elections Yukon, I believe that an offence has not been committed,” McKee says in the press release issued over the weekend.
Nor is there any substance to the concern raised that there was a breach of the special ballot process that allows voters to have somebody else vote on their behalf because they will be unavailable to vote in person, the returning officer determined.
McKee also found there was nothing to the allegations the Yukon Party campaign had provided some voters in Mountainview with the incorrect date of the territorial election or had induced electors to vote by offering a consideration.
The press release indicates the identity of those who filed complaints is not being released by Elections Yukon because it does not want to discourage others who want to come forward with concerns.

The YP social media swat team failed on Nov 8, 2016 at 1:55 pm
A lot of the hysteria whipped up in the election was courtesy of the YP social media swat team, which Laking admitted was in existence last night.
They did have an effect blunting some of the anger in the electorate that was against the YP and turning it towards the other parties. Witness the deliberate misinformation put out about implementation of carbon pricing in 2018, by making it look like those horrible Federal liberals were about to tax common folks yet again and this year for sure, and diapers would cost more..yada..yada..yada.

That's BS that means anyone can falsely accuse someone of wrong doings and that persons name is dragged through the mud while the false accuser sits back and is not held accountable for their misleading statements.
