A new group has been formed to bring together nonprofit leaders’ knowledge and skills to support the nonprofit sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Members of the Yukon Nonprofit Advisory Council bring experience from various sub-sectors including social services, women’s issues, seniors, youth, arts, heritage, sport, environment, industry associations, education and volunteerism,” the organization said in a statement Wednesday.

COVID-19 has brought challenges for most organizations across the nonprofit sector.

“The (council) is an opportunity to connect leaders, communicate opportunities, share ideas and strategies, support organizations and their teams, and plan for COVID-19 recovery practices,” the organization said.

There are a number of active Yukon advisory councils, including those representing business, arts, women’s issues and tourism.

These councils were established by the Yukon government to act as advisors directly to the government.

The new council is unique in that it’s sector-led and is governed to support and advise the nonprofit sector while, at the same time, acting as a resource for all governments in their nonprofit support initiatives.

“The nonprofit sector is the heart and soul of our communities,” said council chair Wendy Morrison.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges for the whole sector. It was time to come together and help facilitate sector-wide support and communicafions.”

Hi @Groucho d'North,

This is not a council that was established by the Yukon Government. It says in the article itself: "The new council is unique in that it’s sector-led and is governed to support and advise the nonprofit sector while, at the same time, acting as a resource for all governments in their nonprofit support initiatives."

While other councils are government led, this one is sector led, meaning those individuals who either work or volunteer in the not-for-profit sector.

The terms of reference are available here: https://volunteeryukon.ca/uploads/general/YNAC_Draft_TORs__Background.pdf
I encourage you to read through them and if you have any concerns reach out to the Chair: Wendy Morrison who's contact info is in the link provided.

Cheers

Another made up sectorial body for YG to hide behind. Thereby limiting direct contact to the ministers by the NGOs looking for some help financially or for other things. I wonder, are there terms of reference for this new group? If so, who drafted them and to what purpose? Once again Covid is being used as a smoke screen.
