Non-resident hospitalized with COVID-19

An out-of-territory resident has tested positive for COVID-19.

By Whitehorse Star on September 28, 2020

An out-of-territory resident has tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. Brendan Hanley, the Yukon’s chief medical officer of health, issued a news release to that effect on Saturday.

The person, whose gender and identity are not being released, has been hospitalized in Whitehorse and is in stable condition.

“Contact tracing is well underway, and all close contacts in Yukon have been contacted by public health officials,” Hanley said in the news release.

Based on the risk assessment by Yukon Communicable Disease Control, the public health risk associated with this case is low, he added.

As this person is not a resident of Yukon, this case will not be included in the territory’s case count, which stands at 15 (all recovered).

For non-medical questions, Yukoners can email covid19info@gov.yk.ca or phone 1-877-374-0425.

For medical questions or if you feel ill, phone 811 or launch the COVID-19 self-assessment tool.

Just as many of us have suspected. 81% of the population is immune or suffers only mild symptoms due to previous exposure to other common-cold coronaviruses.
"Cross-reactive SARS-CoV-2 peptides revealed pre-existing T cell responses in 81% of unexposed individuals and validated similarity with common cold coronaviruses, providing a functional basis for heterologous immunity in SARS-CoV-2 infection. Diversity of SARS-CoV-2 T cell responses was associated with mild symptoms of COVID-19...".

@Denis
Remember when Aids was a huge issue? No one was to know who they were. At least I guess they are being somewhat consistent.

@Nathan

That is bad Math. Percentage of Positive cases to deaths is irrelevant.
155,000 is less then .5 percent of the population even if everyone of them was positive it would be next to nothing as a percentage.

There is way too much bad math being used these days. Maybe to suit their narrative????? if 10,000 die in a population of 34,000,000 it is only .02% amazing eh?

Wife & I are both 80. We don't leave our home except for necessities (Banking, groceries, prescriptions etc.). It is not fair to expect others to risk themselves, running errands for us. It is time Dr. HANLEY & PREMIER pull their heads out of the sand. They are exaggerating PRIVACY LAWS. As Yukon residents and taxpayers, we deserve to know HOW THIS PERSON GOT TO YUKON, ROUTES TAKEN , AND FROM WHAT AREA. Give us a chance to protect ourselves!!!!
Please quit BSing us. We dutifully employ our Masks & hand sanitizers.

Hanley and Silver finally get to declare that we have a COVID case in hospital, which they can use to further justify their continued oppression and authoritarian rule.

No doubt that this individual has multiple co-morbidities and is elderly.
But, I'm going to use Hanley's own trick against him. This person is not a Yukoner. So, it doesn't count. (Re: Hanley counting Yukoners that test positive outside the territory.)

Oh, thank goodness it's a non-resident and not included in our case count. Knowing that it's a non-resident hospitalized with COVID 19 means that no people in Yukon are at risk because it's a non-resident.

In Canada, 155,301 covid cases and 9,278 dead so if these are correct about 6 percent of those infected die.
But of course it's mainly older people that die but still it's a high percentage so protect the elderly.

It sounds like (but we don't know for sure) that this person did not contract COVID19 here in the Yukon, but arrived infected.
Contact tracing & notification is WELL underway (completed in Yukon), if we need to be told to go get tested because a 'sick' person was at ABC company during such & such a time they will say so. They did before, why wouldn't they this time? Low Risk to the general public is why.
YAY! Yukon, keep up the good work, we're still COVID19 free.
Best wishes and a speedy recovery to the patient under care of our Yukon Health Services.

We are still doing ok so stop worrying.
Based on what is happening outside we may see all ventilators in use soon but it's still not the end of the world.

Did this person drive into the Yukon or fly in? I think we should at least be told that.
