The Order of Yukon and the Commissioner’s Awards for Bravery and for Public Volunteer Service nominations are now open, it was announced Monday.

These awards recognize Yukoners who go above and beyond in their service to their communities and to the territory.

Any Yukoner with outstanding achievements may be nominated to receive an award.

The Order of Yukon is the highest honour in the territory, equivalent to similar honours across the country.

The order is awarded to a person who has demonstrated excellence and achievement, and made outstanding contributions to the social, cultural or economic well-being of the Yukon and its residents.

The nominations are open to Canadian citizens who are or were long-time residents of the Yukon.

The Commissioner’s Award for Bravery recognizes people who have performed an outstanding act of bravery and have responded at considerable personal risk to save or safeguard, or attempt to save or safeguard, the life of one or more people.

The Commissioner’s Award for Bravery can be given out posthumously to those who gave their life protecting others.

The Commissioner’s Award for Public Volunteer Service recognizes people who have made a significant volunteer contribution to Yukon business, academics, arts, culture or society, and have contributed positively to the well-being of the Yukon and its residents.

The deadline to submit a nomination for these three awards is Oct. 28.

Those interested can visit the awards information page on the Commissioner of Yukon’s website for more information on how to nominate.

There have been 24 inductees into the Order of Yukon since 2019.

There have been more than 200 recipients of the Commissioner’s Award for Public Volunteer Service and 60-plus recipients of the Commissioner’s Award for Bravery since the award’s creation in 1980 by the late commissioner Doug Bell.

The Office of the Commissioner of Yukon also prepared a document and videos to help Yukoners nominate deserving recipients.

Gee...I think the entire country should receive one.
Factor in how brave we are to face communism nose to nose in the last three years and counting.
Volunteers too eh?
What of the millions who volunteered to be big pharmaceutical lab rats?

Getting a pat on the back from political blowholes means absolutely f/a.
They even hand out order of Canada recognition like citizenships...
Even hand them out to anti Semitic cultural elites of the traditional kind, that opine on the benefits of the third Reich.
Cannot remember the idiots name, but nobody demanded he be cancelled.
...a back pat from a manipulative political blowhole, or holes

I nominate Santa Claus. Doesn't he have a toy factory just north of here? And he is so jolly and always on schedule. Just ask the Royal Canadian Second Hand Air Force. They always spot him every year on the 24 of December.
