Temperature records have been set in Whitehorse and some Yukon communities over the last three days of abnormaly balmy weather.
Meteorologist Jim Steele of the Kamloops, B.C. weather office said Saturday's official temperature at the Whitehorse airport was 18.3. That outdid the 16.2 record for April 23 set in 2003.
Records were also set that day in Dawson City, Faro and Old Crow.
Sunday's 18.9 also surpassed the 2003 record of 16.8, as did Monday's 20.4 on the thermometer, barely edging out the 19.6 record set in 2003, Steele explained.
But it's over, beginning today.
'The cold air is pushing down from the Beaufort Sea and it's not only covering the Yukon and Mackenzie Valley, it's pushing down into both Alberta and B.C.,' he said. 'There's even snow forecast for Calgary tonight.'
Steele said there's no way Whitehorse will set a fourth straight record today and surpass the 21.3 recorded in you guessed it 2003.
The capital will be lucky to hit 18 this afternoon, he said. There will be a gradual drop in temperatures through the week to a forecast high of only nine by Saturday.
