Dr. Catherine Elliott, the acting chief medical officer of health, has reported 24 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from noon last Friday to noon Monday.

Fifteen are Yukon residents, four of whom are located in a community, she reported late Monday afternoon.

Nine are from out of the territory but have been diagnosed in the Yukon.

As of Monday afternoon, the number of active cases was 79.

The total number of confirmed cases in Yukon residents since March 2020 is 891.

Individuals from out of territory but who are diagnosed in the Yukon are counted in the active case count but not in the Yukon total case compilation, as they are counted in their home jurisdiction.

Since March 2020, 834 people have recovered. Ten people have died.

A COVID-19 public exposure notice has been issued for the Canada Games Centre Wellness Centre for 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Self-monitor and seek testing if symptoms develop, Elliott advises.

Meanwhile, Yukon Communicable Disease Control (YCDC) has issued the following COVID-19 exposure notices for students and staff at several schools:

• last Thursday, for Grade 3 at Johnson Elementary School, Watson Lake;

• last Thursday, for Grades 2/3 combined class (English), École Selkirk Elementary School;

• last Wednesday, both Grades 2/3 combined classes at Golden Horn Elementary School, Golden Horn; and

• Grades 2/3 English combined class at Elijah Smith Elementary School from Oct. 18.

An exposure notice has been issued for school bus route #40 for last Wednesday.

It involves morning pickups in the Whitehorse Copper, Blaker Place, Spruce Hill, and Golden Horn areas, and drop-offs at Golden Horn Elementary School

Also involved are afternoon pickups at Golden Horn Elementary School and drop-offs in the Golden Horn, Spruce Hill, Blaker Place, and Whitehorse Copper areas.

All individuals involved have been advised directly by YCDC via notification letters.

Elliott continues to remind everyone who has symptoms to get tested, no matter where they’re located.

Anyone experiencing symptoms in Whitehorse should call the COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre at 393-3083 or book online to arrange for testing.

People in communities should contact their rural community health centre.

Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 19, 123 positive COVID-19 cases were diagnosed:

• 26 per cent in the 30 to 39 age range;

• 14 per cent in the zero to nine, 10 to 19 years and 20 to 29 age ranges;

• 12 per cent in the 50 to 59 age range;

• 10 per cent in the 40 to 49 age range;

• eight per cent in the 60 to 69 age range; and

T@ The valid counter argument in case you haven't noticed is against using statistics that do not add up to the reality of life and death and human suffering. So to emphasize, you turn the statistics argument, the favorite of totalitarian governments and political manipulators, and apply it to the manipulator. Statistics is about averages, but never fits the reality of being human - a human being is not a statistic. Turning human beings into statistics doesn't work. For example the commentator my comment was aimed at could change his opinion overnight. And maybe as the direct result of my opinion!

@TheHammer
Have you considered that ad hominem attacks don't actually constitute a valid counterargument?

Mathew@ Have you considered that your views on life, your attitude, is another statistic that can be framed, catalogued, and analyzed. And placed in the context of shallow blah blah mass delusional opinion of an ignoramus with a very low threshold of inferior thinking?

Lexiconmus@"Locked in my closet." Are you sure COVID is your only closet that you are secretly locked in. Your comment suggests a certain political closet. How about anti masker ant vaccine right wing, anti government closet freedom fighter.

To those who say 'Why are you afraid....'? on Oct 28, 2021 at 9:22 am

It's a facebook meme that's being widely spread 'If you're vaccinated, why are you afraid?'. Well, for a few reasons - I'm not 'afraid' of dying from covid, because the vaccine will likely protect me from serious illness. But I'm afraid of spreading it to someone who isn't protected (like my elderly friends, who are both in remission from cancer treatments). I'm afraid of it spreading through the schools again, leading to closures as in the NWT recently (and how did the parents cope? Likely by having to leave their jobs to stay home with kids). I'm afraid that increased cases will result in hospitalizations, like we saw a few months ago (with surgeries such as hip and knee replacements postponed again). I'm afraid for businesses having to reduce their hours or close altogether, if cases rise. Anyone who isn't afraid, or at least concerned, about those and other impacts of increasing cases just doesn't get it, or is incredibly selfish.

I don't see how a PCR test can identify covid. It covers a lot. Not too long ago, but before Jan 19, my PCR was 180. They are saying 29 indicates covid? I was really sick, but it wasn't covid. Drs. never found out what it was. So, is it 29 with symptoms? and best guess is its covid? 1-3 is normal.

How about a notification on the UNreliability of these PCR tests. They're notorious for churning out false positives if analysed with a Cycle Treshold (CT) over 29. I never got an answer from the chief medical officer regarding which CT is used for covid tests on Yukoners. We need transparency, not daily fear-mongering notices of 'new cases' that have lost all meaning.
Fact is, the great majority of people with a 'positive' covid test only have mild symptoms, if any, and quickly recover. Stop spending our medical system resources on this absurd testing.

Let's go get that booster shot because the first two never worked. Europe is suspended the use of moderna indefinitely but let's all hurry for the third shot. How about listen to the nurses and doctors losing their jobs they'll tell you that most of ICU patients are double vaccinated why are the liberals not telling the truth?

I've got stats too - look! 28,000 ÷ 38,000,000 x 100 = 0.07% of Canadians dead from Covid, in 1.5 years, hardly enough to burn the charter of rights and freedoms for! More stats! Over 70% of the dead are over 80...
