The Yukon NDP will host its annual convention Sunday in Whitehorse.
The convention will include an overview of the last year and planning for the future, the party said Wednesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be the first in-person convention since 2019.
Party members will have the option to attend the convention through Zoom.
Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh will be speaking with attendees at the event remotely.
“What’s important at convention and with this one especially is to get people together and talking,” said NDP president Jan Stick, a former MLA.
“There is a business side of things, but we don’t want that to be the only focus of the event.
“Convention is a great chance to bring the members together and listen to what’s on people’s minds. I’m really looking forward to seeing and catching up with people in person again.”
In addition to party business, the convention will feature a presentation from Inspire, Reconciliation, Potential (IRP) and a discussion on reconciliation and society’s role to promote it.
“I love bringing people together to learn, reflect, and celebrate, and convention is the perfect place to do all three,” said NDP Leader Kate White.
“It’s a great kick-off to many more community events planned for this summer.”
Sunday’s convention will begin at 10 a.m. at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre.
Prior registration is recommended.
