NDP denounces Trudeau’s ‘failure’ on climate change

Lisa Vollans-Leduc, the Yukon’s NDP candidate for the Sept. 20 election, said Monday she is committed to protecting the climate for future generations.

By Whitehorse Star on August 24, 2021

Lisa Vollans-Leduc, the Yukon’s NDP candidate for the Sept. 20 election, said Monday she is committed to protecting the climate for future generations.

“All Yukoners – young and old, newcomers and First Nations who have been here forever, know the climate has changed,” Vollans-Leduc said in a statement.

“Winters are warmer with more precipitation, and the spring melt has led to flooding. Canadians can’t wait any longer for our government to act on this emergency.

“Unlike the Liberals, the NDP have a real plan which will address climate change now, not when it’s too late.”

Many Yukoners, including Vollans-Leduc, living in the Southern Lakes region spent their summer filling sandbags to protect their homes from floods.

Flooding also forced popular recreational areas to be closed.

“My neighbours and I are living through climate change first hand. We need to act now,” said Vollans-Leduc.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh “pointed out Justin Trudeau’s record of failure to address the climate crisis,” Vollans-Leduc said.

“He promised to eliminate subsidies to big oil, but has instead increased them to levels higher than when the Conservatives were in government.

“During his time as Prime minister, Trudeau has made Canada the only G7 country to have increased its emissions. Canada has become the third-biggest air polluter among wealthy nations,” the NDP candidate added.

“Recently, his government tried to trick Canadians that buying a pipeline will help lower emissions.”

The NDP has pledged $500 million in funding to support Indigenous-led stewardship programs to advance reconciliation and protect the land, water and forests, Vollans-Leduc noted.

“Jagmeet committed to identifying and eliminating harmful subsidies given to oil and gas companies and reallocating them to the clean, renewable energy sector instead.”

He also committed to cutting Canada’s emissions by more than half by the year 2030 with projects like electrifying public transit, Vollans-Leduc added.

“Time is running out, and we need to make different choices; better choices for all of us,” Singh said in the statement.

“I want to be able to tell my child that I have done everything in my power to make a difference,” he added.

“I want to fight the climate emergency for real. People deserve better than a government that says things with no intention of following though.

“It’s about choices,” Singh added. “We can choose to subsidize clean, renewable energy instead of big oil.”

Oh this is quite rich. Perhaps the Yukon NDP should talk to the Alberta NDP who were all for pipelines when they were in power there. Or maybe the current NDP in BC which gave the green light for the massive Site C dam which flooded immense areas of traditional First Nation Lands. The BC NDP also gave the green light for a bunch of natural gas pipelines and for fracking to occur. But somehow we are supposed to pretend the federal or local NDP here are somehow different? haha gimme a break. They are no better than the rest of the parties.

You what's a big failure? Hanley's pretense to be unbiased chief medical officer making public rules while making backroom deals with liberals. That's bad.

AI@ '...a weather pattern in the Southern Lakes-not climate change.' The rainy season in Southern Lakes in 1975 was two weeks in May. Observation of climate change in Yukon depends on how old you are, and how many years you have spent living outside of Whitehorse. The whole issue of climate change is clouded over by political maniacs.

Definitely not doing enough. Everyone should be informed as to what can be done. it will take a world wide concerted effort. But the world is dominated by conflicting ideologies, and political maniacs. To start we have to start at home, now. it's like the airlift from Kabul, strangled by red tape, and political maniacs.

Sorry Matthew, I do not have to prove anything to you. It would be your job to prove that thousands of climate and other scientists are wrong using the Scientific Method. But here's a hint... look up tree ring, lake sediment, ice core and other methods used to determine past climate data. And here's an interesting tidbit - human output of GHGs draw natural volcanic output of the same GHGs. The USGS has some interesting info on that.

Carbon taxes and other AGW policy are a different matter. Lots of room for debate on that. But the fact that we are a big deal on this planet and that we are negatively affecting natural climate cycles and other ecological systems I do not doubt.

ProScienceGreenie: "The science of climate change? You mean the "scam of climate change". You will soon enough. Just a note, leave climate change to nature. Go after and advocate cleaning up the world's pollution. Pollution isn't changing the world's climate, it's making people sick.

@ProScience ok, prove it to me then. Besides, your missing the entire point. So when you were 5 years old, hit a girl, should we base your entire life on that 5 secs? That's EXACTLY what they're doing.

Oh sorry any re-elected there is really no money left. Our great current leader has spent beyond his means. You've got to create a thirty-year plan to repay. Guess you could sell all the federal assets to reduce the deficit and cancel two-thirds of JT promises.

Matthew, we have a lot more than 150 years of climate data. Perhaps if you spent more time learning about the science of climate change and less time on conspiracy theories you would have a better understanding of the issue.

Al, I'm also very upset with the Afghan situation. The Taliban were the bad guys. Why did Trump and Mike Pompeo demand the release from prison of 5K of their most experienced fighters? And their leader? Why did they throw the Afghan government, NATO and 20 years of blood, sweat and tears under the bus? Was it to pay off the Trump Org debts to Russia and China? Or hasten Pompeo's evangelical Rapture? Before we criticize the chaos NATO is dealing with shouldn't we be asking these question about the surrender by the last US Administration?

Recently I have noticed many of the 'Save the World' people demanding governments to"DO something" as the rhetoric increases as the forests burn, the floods surge and the hurricanes lay all flat.
I am curious exactly what these people are expecting to be done. Even if all fossil fuels were outlawed today (which I believe many are hoping for) it would take decades for any measurable improvement to the planet's atmosphere.

Just wondering? on Aug 25, 2021 at 4:21 am

I was just wondering if any of these temporary residents have been charged with polluting public waters for illegally building on known flood plains and having their septics wash into the lakes and rivers? Is anyone testing?

"Indigenous led-stewardship programs"? Never heard of any. Wanna fill us in on some of them. I know and hang out with several FN people. I'm sure they would like to know too. Ahh well, anything goes for votes with followers of the Karl Marx communist manifesto.

Did anyone ever give this some thought - instead of less, more CO2 is necessary. This whole climate change thing started off as "global warming". The scam made many people multi millionaires eg former Vice President Al Gore etc. Then when that scam ran out, it changed to "climate change". It too is proving to be a money making scam. Greta Thurnberg was just a normal early teen school girl who made it big in the climate change scam. She and her family made millions off it so far. Why don't they just put a climate change stock on the market. I would buy big in it. Maybe some of us could get rich off its benefits. But, still, it's just another modern scam that will eventually run out when most of our forests burn down because of CO2 starvation and the worlds people will die from pulmonary and brain diseases from lack of oxygen. So, NDP, if climate change is your thing this election, don't come knocking on my door. You won't like what I got to say.

Mr. Penner - Agreed. It is heartbreaking to watch the sheeple be willingly cuckolded by their ethical, moral, and intellectual, shepherds to the new world order. The fleecing of the flock is well underway.

Hey Al - Agreed. However, running or not Liberals should be ashamed and should have had their heads hung low accordingly… These people are dangerous. They have repeatedly demonstrated this dangerousness and they still have people voting for them.

The Liberals and their NDP confederates are straight up mocking Canadians, restricting Canadian’s rights and freedoms, bankrupting the country.
But this too shall pass for Trudeau tells me so… You will own nothing and be happy… Trudeau is working on the own nothing part - Taxes, taxes, taxes…

You mean Geo engineering? The whole scam of Global Warming is pushed by the same people who want you to "own nothing and you'll be happy". Crazy, wacky weather is here. Gee, these liars were right all along, lmao. Funny how a couple planes can go over and the sky turns milky white without any gaps, lol. No more deep blue skies anymore either. But I don't expect anyone to actually care. Pay your carbon tax like a good peasant and don't look up. There's no one left who has the courage to bring any of this up at a national level. Your useless career and fake fiat money will save you.

Please, tell me how can you claim we are in a climate crisis if only the past 150 years on a 4,500,000,000 year old planet we have records for.. carbon is essential to ALL life on Earth, it's good for you and the environment!
P.S can you share what chemicals are being sprayed on us to manipulate the weather? (Cloud seeding, geoengineering).

You had a weather pattern in the southern lakes - not climate change. There is a difference. You should know if you do your damn research. Just because Singh says it is so does not make it either true or a reality.

Now if you really want to go after the Liberals, go after them over Afghanistan. What is going on there is "real" and played out in "real time". The horrors we are about to see after the 31st of August will pale to your worries. People who sacrificed their safety and their lives to protect our women and men. This is the thanks they are going to get from the Liberal Canadian government. A bloody government that is so useless and inept that it boggles the mind. They have had years to get their act together on repatriating these heroes. They have and are failing the Afghan people and our veterans. As a veteran, my comrades and I know full well the distaste the Trudeau has for the Armed Forces - just like his old man did.

Any person running for the Liberals should hang their head in bloody shame. Bare witness to what is to befall - the blood of these people will be on your hands Trudeau - forever.

At least she and other NDP were there filling sandbags. All the Liberals were there to get their pictures taken and that's about it. Well a Liberal Minister did show up with some doughnuts I'll admit that.
