Names of collision victims released

The Yukon Coroner’s Service has identified the two victims of the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday evening on the North Klondike Highway near Whitehorse.

The Yukon Coroner’s Service has identified the two victims of the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday evening on the North Klondike Highway near Whitehorse.

According to a statement released this afternoon from chief coroner Heather Jones, 51-year-old Carmacks resident Harry Johnnie was found dead in the Dodge Ram pickup truck involved in the crash.

Meanwhile, 81-year-old Robert LaFleur of Faro died in the Ford F-150 pickup truck.

A 55-year-old female passenger who was pulled out of the Dodge Ram pickup truck by a passerby and taken to Whitehorse General Hospital was not identified.

The coroner and emergency response personnel responded to the accident shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The collision took place at km 225 of the North Klondike Highway, near the Lake Laberge Campground.

The investigation into the collision by both the coroner and Whitehorse RCMP continues.
