A two-storey Marsh Lake home was destroyed by fire last week, Yukon Fire Marshal Devin Bailey confirmed in an interview this morning.

Bailey told the Star the Marsh Lake Volunteer Fire Department was notified by a neighbour of the fire at 1:30 a.m. last Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:06 a.m., he said.

Multiple volunteer fire de-partments were notified and provided assistance.

The Golden Horn and Mount Lorne departments assisted with the initial suppression efforts.

The Ibex Valley and Hootalinqua departments arrived later to provide assistance with cleanup and mopping up.

Bailey said there was no one home at the time.

They do not provide the identities of homeowners affected by fire, he said.

Bailey said volunteer firefighters who dedicated their time deserve a lot of recognition and appreciation.

There were 17 volunteers in all who responded.

The last firefighter was on the scene until 9:40 a.m.

He said the firefighting equipment was back in service at 11:30 a.m.

A garage that was adjacent to the property was also damaged, though the extent of the damage is not known at this time.

The value of the home is also unknown.

Bailey said the fire marshal’s office is continuing its investigation into the fire.

The Marsh Lake fire department would not comment.

So, 26 minutes for volunteers to arrive that arguably live in the area. Whitehorse fire department could have been there faster. Politics could have cost lives and definitely a property. I hope this home owner takes legal action
