A motorist was rescued by emergency responders early this morning after a vehicle left the Alaska Highway and went over an embankment south of Jakes Corner.

At approximately 5:10 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to a request for a mutual aid rope rescue.

“Upon arrival and consultation with the on-scene volunteer fire departments (Marsh Lake and Tagish), crews established a rope rescue system to access a person in a vehicle which had left the road surface and come to rest over the embankment,” responders said in a statement.

“Firefighters were successful in gaining access to the occupant, assessing for injuries, packaging and hoisting the person to waiting paramedics on the roadway.

“Thanks to members of Marsh Lake and Tagish Fire Departments for the great job in preparing the rescue area prior to our arrival, as well as our partners with RCMP and Yukon EMS.”
