A Saskatchewan man was killed Saturday morning after his motorcycle went off the highway north of Beaver Creek and crashed in the ditch.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to the RCMP.

The collision is still under investigation, but police say alcohol is not a factor.

The 56-year-old man’s name will not be released to the public, as per new RCMP guidelines.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Beaver Creek RCMP received a report of the crash, about 20 kilometres north of the small community on the Alaska Highway.

The man was on his way back from Alaska.

A friend travelling behind him, as well as other vehicles, came upon the scene, said Cpl. Rob Morin, head of the Yukon RCMP’s relief unit.

The weather was sunny and warm, so it’s not known why the man went off the road. The motorcycle was towing a tent trailer.

EMS was dispatched within minutes, and treated the man on scene before he was pronounced dead.

The RCMP’s collision analyst examined the area and will produce a report, Morin said.

The Yukon coroner’s office is also investigating.

Well, a sad ending to a beautiful journey to Alaska...perhaps the morning sun was intense, glaring causing a blind spot for a moment, or a patch of gravel. Condolences to friends and family. Caring community of Beaver Creek, have fine EMS and RCMP members..

I just came back that way 1 day sooner I was also pulling a trailer behind my bike it's not something you want to do improperly . The no helmet is just a bad choice. So sad,
