A home in Ross River was destroyed by fire early this morning after its occupants safely escaped.

Ross River RCMP were notified of the fire at about 1:15.

Police and the southeast Yukon community's firefighters found the house fully consumed by flames when they arrived, police said.

"Despite considerable efforts from the firefighters, they were unable to stop the blaze, which consumed the house," police said.

"All residents were safely out of the residence and unharmed."

The names of the occupants weren't released.

The cause of the fire isn't believed to be suspicous, police said. They are continuing to investigate the blaze.

Police are reminding home owners to take the necessary precautions to keep their wood stoves, furnaces, chimneys, electric space heaters and any other heating source clean and in good working order.

They also strongly recommend ensuring proper ventilation and installing fire alarms.

Ive noticed that the HOTEL is being brought up by miss mosi. A lot of buildings like that are left to operate because nobody wants to invest into new infrastructure. If the YTG followed the book to the T, I guarantee you more then half of Whitehorses housing will be condemened and probably more than a third in the communties, but that would create a housing shortage and that influences votes.

The "Star" should know the facts before printing i think it is rude to the poor families in Ross who lost their loved ones. An apology should be made from the paper.

I agree with Glenda, those were my friends who were in there, and not everyone escaped safely! Know the facts before printing your article, especially one as serious as this matter.

Too bad it missed the HOTEL. That place

is and always was an ungly, dangerous firetrap. A disaster just waiting to happen. But that is what happens when you give the Fire Marshall free drinks!

Too bad it was not the HOTEL. That place

is a firetrap if there ever was? A fire

just waiting to happen. Weiner Roast?
