The Yukon government is reporting six new wildfires from Friday evening to this morning. They are located at:
• Dawson Dome (DA-011, 0.01 hectares, lightning-caused, out): this critical-zone fire was quickly reported on Friday, contained and put out.
• Porcupine River (OC-003, 1 ha, human-caused, under control): this fire is located about 13 kilometres downstream of Old Crow as the crow flies. A Wildland Fire Management crew contained this fire and does not expect it to spread further.
• Coal River (WL-008, 50 ha, lightning, out of control): this transitional zone fire is being monitored.
• Yusezyu River (WL-009, 120 ha, lightning, out of control): this wilderness zone fire is being monitored.
• 70 km NE of Tombstone Park (DA-012, 7.5 ha, lightning, out of control): this wilderness zone fire is being monitored.
• Geh Kaii Creek (OC-004, 17 ha, lightning, out of control): this is a new wilderness zone fire reported this morning; it’s 63 km south of Fort McPherson near the N.W.T. border and is being assessed.
The Tuchitua River fire (WL-007, lightning, out of control) grew to 9,191 hectares in size over the weekend, crossing the Robert Campbell Highway on Friday evening about 18 kilometres north of the Nahanni Range Road.
The highway remains closed between kilometres 107 and 130, and road users should check 511 Yukon for updates.
Over the weekend, crews were active at the fire, creating a fuel break between the body of the blaze and the highway to reinforce protection already in place at sites in the area. Due to shifting winds, smoke drift from this fire may be visible in Watson Lake today.
The Lake Laberge fire (XY-007, 4,004 ha, lightning, out of control) has now spread past Hootalinqua.

Kudos to all the compassionate people in Protective Services for your hard work in responding to both fire and water threats presently running amok throughout the territory. Also, tremendous thanks to all the Yukoners who got sore backs filling and placing sandbags for our fellow residents.
Well done!
