The Carcross/Tagish First Nation and the Carcross/Tagish Management Corp. have announced the partial reopening of the biking and hiking trails on Montana Mountain.

Users of the trail network on the mountain are being told that due to contamination issues on the ASG mine site, Maggie’s Run and Sporting Wood trail are closed for the season.

The trail crew is working on rerouting the affected areas of these trails to reopen and avoid the area of concern.

The access road will be closed above the parking lot at the Caribou/Upper Wolverine trailhead as well as the access road above Holey Roads.

Nares View, Mountain Hero and McDonald Creek trails can be accessed via the Dei Kwáan uptrack and the access road if starting from the bottom and Caribou and the access road if starting from the upper outhouse.

People are being asked to follow those measures for their, and the workers’ safety. Users are also asked not to harvest anything from the site.

The rest of the trails will be open but users are reminded that mountain biking is a high-risk sport and should be mindful of strategies to reduce risk.

They are also being asked to respect COVID-19 precautions and stay a caribou width, two metres apart, and stay home if sick or have recently travelled outside of the Yukon’s bubble.

Caribou are not two meters wide.
Maybe after being fed from day one by state actors they may...but not currently are they two meters wide.
