Members of the Yukon’s Department Health and Social Services walked local media through an example of how their traveling clinics to the outlying communities will function on Friday afternoon.

The clinics are set to begin this week in Watson Lake and Beaver Creek.

Mobile vaccination teams will begin there, and move on to other locations in the general vicinity, such as Old Crow.

Friday’s walk-through was held at Vanier Catholic Secondary School.

The clinics are operations similar to the territory’s highly-successful flu clinics.

Health care workers and government officials, such as John Coyne, the manager for the COVID-19 Vaccination Implementation Team, Health and Social Services, are emphasizing the importance of using the new online and telephone services to book an appointment to keep the process streamlined.

However, anyone without an appointment – say, people who live in remote locations without access to telephone or internet services – can also be accommodated without an appointment, Coyne said.

The appointment booking is a vital part of the process, since it allows the teams to plan each day’s anticipated vaccine usage.

The process is designed to process as many people as possible while still observing COVIC-19 protocols.

Regardless of whatever else, a big thank you to the frontline healthcare staff travelling to the communities and making this a reality for those inclined to participate.

Still not sure about this new medical technology, but after doing the homework I also can’t find a concrete data point about the vaccine itself that would prevent me from participating. Complications and negative outcomes reported seem to be in line with normal averages in the wider population.

The state of COVID hype/fear/control being a separate issue entirely. Not sure how I feel about part of the government’s official motivation for vaccine uptake being the return of rights and freedoms that should probably be returned regardless (and it would be nice to get a guarantee of that), but I wouldn’t let that stop me from making a personal choice based on the strength of the medical evidence available. That evidence satisfies me that, at the very least, a whole bunch of smart folks have tried their best and that it has shown to be effective particularly at reducing the severity of the disease once infected.

On this one, maybe we say screw the politics and follow the science?

I didn't know that Beaver Creek is in the general vicinity of Old Crow. Interesting what Covid-19 does to one's mind.
