Mobile home park looking better

City council wants to see a few more improvements to the Prospector Trailer Park before approving an expansion of seven new stalls for mobile homes.
Council voted Monday evening to postpone third and final reading of the required rezoning until Oct. 3. That will provide park management with more time to continue sprucing up the neighbourhood next to Kopper King Services Ltd.
The trailer park owners recently requested the required rezoning, but council members were adamant that before they approved any expansion, they wanted the owners clean up what was already there.
Norm Clunies-Ross appeared before council Monday on behalf of the trailer park owners.
He said 23 derelict cars have been removed to date, and number of fences have been put up or straightened out and painted, with more improvements to come.
A report from the city bylaw department indicates there are some homes in the trailer park that are in breach of the maintenace bylaw, with one home having an old stove in the yard under a tarp, for instance.
The park owners have also committed to building a playground once the seven new stalls are approved.
Members of council indicated Monday they wanted to wait until Oct. 3 before considering third and final reading to see how much further park management would go with the improvements.
It was pointed out that there's not likely time this year to build a playground but it was noted that council can make the playground a condition in the development agreement attached to the park expansion.

I'd like to see the approved design, location and legally binding monetary commitment for the play ground before any trailers are moved in.

Mobile homes are the way to go for low income families. New trailers are pretty pricey. Trailers are also great for seniors.. one floor, easy to clean, compact, easy to outfit for handicap items and they can still have a pet in most of the parks. KK trailers were a slum for a long time and i am glad they are sprucing it up. Other parks have been sprucing up as well. People like to have pride in their homes.
