A June 18 Facebook post caused consternation and angst on social media over the National Indigenous Peoples Day long weekend.

A June 18 Facebook post caused consternation and angst on social media over the National Indigenous Peoples Day long weekend.

Yukon Party MLA Yvonne Clarke posted: “On June 17, the Liberal Government signed a Ministerial Order under the Civil Emergency Measures Act.

“They provided no press release, explanation, or context to the order before posting it on the Yukon Government website. The order is available here: https://legislation.yukon.ca/regs/mo2021_018.pdf.”

Clarke’s post ignited a bit of a firestorm over the long weekend, as people tried to interpret what the new order meant.

She came in for some flak for posting the item without context – but the party defended her.

“As is commonly done by many MLAs, Ms. Clarke shared this government document on her social media,” said Yukon Party chief of staff Ted Laking.

“She did not comment on or editorialize her thoughts on the order; she simply shared the government-issued order exactly as it was issued.

“A number of commenters on MLA Clarke’s social media noted that the order was confusing without any official explanation; which we agree with. The government should include clear explanations of the Ministerial Orders they issue under CEMA to avoid the type of confusion created by this order,” Laking added.

“Further, as they have for over a year, the Liberals continue to resist any legislative or democratic oversight or information sharing about decisions they are making under the Civil Emergency Measures Act.

This lack of transparency by the government further leads to confusion.”

In response, the government issued the following statement:

“We have been open and transparent about our decision-making throughout the pandemic. When public health recommendations change, they are communicated to the public.

“When restrictions are going to change, we give the public a heads-up.

“This continues to be a dynamic situation that changes daily and sometimes by the hour.

“Yukoners need consistent leadership and accurate information as we continue to navigate through this pandemic.”

The latest order-in-council regarding a CEMA change was announced June 9 by Health and Social Services Minister Tracy-Anne McPhee during an update with Hanley.

“The change means children under 12 years of age who are travelling with fully vaccinated family members and caregivers do not need to self-isolate when they enter the territory,” the government said.

“The order-in-council was passed on June 17th, and the change came into effect on June 18th, as announced and communicated to the public.”

@Joe I did quote Currie Dixon correctly. He said it was unnecessary and too dangerous on the radio twice that I heard. So why did he say it was dangerous if its just a "scamdemic" as you say? You need to face it and realize that every party has basically the same stance on vaccinations and restrictions. None of the parties or their leaders think its a "scamdemic" like you do. Maybe you should be supporting Maxime Bernier and his PPC party.

@ snowman..probably want to try and quote mr. Dixon correctly. he said the election was unnecessary at that time, and he was correct. It was a slimy move by liberals to try and take advantage of an opportunity. They barely succeeded, they gave YP a month to prepare and lost the popular vote by wide margin. This coalition whereas each party sold out their members values and principles in favor of sufficient time for MLA's to get pension will soon fail and we will go to the polls again.

Typical Yukon Party operation trying to become relevant with little success.

Some things governments do they shout about- Some other things they whisper. Consider why.

I certainly appreciated the link. I showed my supervisor at work, and they went up the ladder. However HR seems to think they can do whatever they want. so now things have escalated to Human Rights Commission.
There is nothing stating that Yukoners who don’t leave have to isolate. Just because they're not vaccinated.

Hey joe, if this is just a fake "scamdemic", then why was Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon saying it was too dangerous to hold the last election and it was unnecessary? You can't pretend that it isn't real when even your own leader says it is very real and very dangerous.

Easy to see the lack of leadership from this government. Hopefully coalition will soon fail as predicted and we get another shot at the polls. This time give adequate notice and not in middle of scamdemic

Deflect and attack. That's not taking responsibility or being accountable.
