The contents of a red duffel bag lost in the Mt. McIntyre subdivision could be deadly, Whitehorse RCMP warned Monday.

While responding to a 911 call in the McIntyre village last Friday morning, emergency personnel forgot to take all of their belongings with them.

They left behind an "advanced life support bag," and by the time anyone realized it was missing and went back for it, the bag was gone.

"It was just one of those things," said RCMP Sgt. Mark Groves.

Police are investigating the missing bag, which was left outside on the street, he said, not in someone's home.

He could not give any details of the emergency the ambulance attendants were called to.

The 60-cm long duffel bag contains medical supplies and medication used for life-saving procedures, explained Gerard Dinn, clinical operations manager with Emergency Medical Services.

The contents "can pose a serious health and safety risk," he said, and include equipment used to insert breathing tubes and perform emergency surgical procedures.

According to the RCMP, the bag contains a variety of medications, including some that could be sold illicitly.

"Police are concerned about narcotics," Groves. "There would be an amount of morphine there that would have a street value."

No one is suspected of stealing the bag, nor in any causing it to be left behind, Groves said.

However, police are investigating nevertheless because of the potentially dangerous nature of the drugs it contained.

"Our main goal is to get the drugs out of circulation," he said.

Dinn could not say how much the bag and its contents are worth, nor how much it would cost to replace it.

"We would like to have it back," he said.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the bag contact the RCMP detachment.

Yes, they forgot to take their supplies with them. God forbid that they get distracted taking care of yet another call from the colourful 5% that don't really need an ambulance.

PS. I think you missed this line in the story... "While responding to a 911 call in the McIntyre village last Friday morning, emergency personnel forgot to take all of their belongings with them."

Lisa j, I can't believe you said something so degrading about the mostly wonderful people who live in the Village. I have visited there on many occasions, gone to meetings, dropped off children, played floor hockey with the children and never once thought I needed to fear that my hubcaps would be stolen. Maybe my heart, for the gracious, beautiful people who reside in the village. Perhaps you should open your heart and your mind you might get a big surprise!

lisa j, the village is nothing like the ghetto down south. if u have such negative views on the city of Whitehorse, why don't you do something about it to make it a better place, or relocate to a place that meets your standards.
