Elaine Taylor, the deputy premier and minister responsible for the Yukon Women’s Directorate, is in New York City this week.

She’s taking part in the 60th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) as part of Canada’s official delegation.

On Monday afternoon, at the invitation of the the federal government, Taylor spoke on behalf of Canada on the topic of gender-data design, collection and analysis.

Also on her agenda this week is a stand-alone presentation on the Yukon’s innovative work on gender equality.

“Advancing gender equality through policies, training and information-sharing is a priority for the Government of Yukon and an area where we’re making great progress,” Taylor said Monday.

“I look forward to representing Canada on this important topic and sharing Yukon’s leading approach to gender equality, including the prevention of gender-based violence, in particular against indigenous women and girls.”

Taylor planned to attend a number of federally-sponsored events.

Those include a discussion on violence against women and girls with ministers from Iceland, Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand and Australia.

Taylor will also join Patty Hajdu, the federal minister responsible for the Status of Women and other provincial and territorial ministers, for a number of bilateral discussions with their international counterparts.

“The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is a unique opportunity for Yukon to contribute to the global conversation by sharing our successes and learning from other regions,” Taylor said.

“Securing women’s and girls’ rights and ensuring no one is left behind is a bold vision that Yukon shares.”

Canada’s delegation, led by Hajdu, includes the minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Carolyn Bennett; the minister of Justice and Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould; the minister of International Development and La Francophonie, Marie-Claude Bibeau; the parliamentary secretary for the Status of Women, Anju Dhillon; and provincial and territorial ministers responsible for the Status of Women.

Also involved are a number of non-governmental organizations, including the Native Women’s Association of Canada.

This year’s UNCSW session focuses on women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development.

It includes a review of progress made on the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls, which was the focus of the 57th session.

The UN session runs until March 24.

You can pretty much mention 10 terrible events that happened under the U.N.'s watch since being created. The sad thing is we will all have different answers but probably all correct.

If you could match a personality to a destination.....voila! Good, ahem, work, if you can get it....anticipating quite a few celebratory selfies and I'm interested in the banter as well.....'yes we have one transgender individual, in the Yukon, I'm not sure if there are more as the paper has only reported on the one, but we have taken steps to accept, uh, them, with our legislation....here's a photo of me, with the legislation....

White women and nwac continue to practice Roberts rules or order which exclude poor women and lack an inclusive participation and engagement of all races of
women their so called advocacy! As an indigenous woman I always he been a voice for leadership! Where is our matriarchal rules in nwac?

Ahhhh...the "UN" putting the U in useless for too too long.
The UN is nothing more than an attempt at absolute single global governance to lord over us and other countries.
Our vote in that Useless regime, is of the same value as many 3rd world tyrannical regimes...NOPE we do not need it.
Also, they chip away at our sovereignty with their bulls**t agenda, to think otherwise is IMHO very naive.

Kinda like the ever increasing SJW's and nanny staters, they too "know" better than we do...or so their arrogance suggests.
We do not need their permission to live our lives, the UN must go.
Getting real real tired of race/gender wars, a cancer of the progressives.

Oh please, Please, tell me that Yukon taxpayers didn't fund this awful woman's jaunt to the Big Apple, to sit and gossip over coffee for hours on end about how hard women have it these days, what with banging their heads against that glass ceiling, and having to fly across the continent to yak about the price of coffee etc. And having to brew coffee three times a day for their ( invariably male ) boss, who so under appreciates them for what they are. Please stop .
