Two men are alive but in shock after the float plane they were in crashed into Nisutlin Bay Thursday, according to Teslin RCMP.
The pilot, a 74-year-old Vancouver man, and his passenger, a 42-year-old visitor from the Czech Republic, were on their way to a hunting spot at Hall Lake, about 25 air miles from Teslin, Const. Candice MacEachen told the Star this morning.
They had taken off from the lake and were airborne when the plane flipped and crashed at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
The men weren’t seriously injured, MacEachen said.
A local resident reported the incident at the RCMP detachment.
MacEachen went out in the police boat with a conservation officer.
When she arrived on scene, the two men were out of the plane and sitting on the floats.
Several other locals were there helping as well.
“It’s a great community,” MacEachen said. “Luckily, we have so many people who are willing to help.”
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the incident. It’s not yet known what caused the plane to go down.
It has been pulled into shore and is still in the bay, tied up to the dock.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Teslin RCMP at 390-5555.
