Long-time Whitehorse resident Shakir Alwarid is calling on those willing to help with aid relief to Haiti in the wake of last Tuesday's massive earthquake to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Baked Café.

"We can't just rely on the Yukon government to send a cheque; I think we can do something more,” Alwarid told the Star this morning.

Last week, the territorial government donated $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for relief efforts in the devastated Caribbean nation.

"Tomorrow's meeting will be to discuss and decide on common action,” said Alwarid.

Baked Café is donating the space, he added, before urging all interested individuals and groups to attend.
