Mayor Laura Cabott has proclaimed April as the Daffodil Campaign month.
Mayor Laura Cabott has proclaimed April as the Daffodil Campaign month.
Cabott made the proclamation at Monday’s city council meeting.
There are people in the community affected by cancer, she noted.
Cabott said the Canadian Cancer Society is proud to be a champion and a voice for Canadians who care about cancer and is committed to uniting and inspiring Canadians to take control of it.
Through the Daffodil Campaign, funds are raised to invest in research that will change the future of cancer, she said.
Cabott said cancer society volunteers in Whitehorse and local donors are part of a collective of people united by the same goals.
The daffodil, she said, is a symbol of strength, courage and life for those living with cancer.
“Now therefore, I, Mayor Laura Cabott, do hereby recognize April as the Daffodil Campaign in the City of Whitehorse.”

We are 1000 MRI's behind schedule they say at the Whitehorse General. I was there the other day waiting across the hall for an hour for another matter, and not one person came out of that room so i looked inside at the waiting room for MRI and not one person there.

Council really needs to focus on what taxpayers want the most. Improved services, lower taxes, environmental protection, reduced crime and safe streets.

The federal liberals have banned any references to Daffy Duck and other cartoon characters because of their association with Looney Toons… Looney Toons have bought the Liberal Brand and therefore own the rights to control the Liberal narrative…
Never tease a Liberal
Not even once or twice
A Liberal wouldn’t like it, and
Teasing isn’t nice

Do any of those cancer patients need MRI's? Bring awareness and more so, resolution, to that. I say this as the survived son of a mother lost to cancer who may have lived longer had she lived somewhere else. To hell with your empty platitudes, every single dollar wasted on this could go to our medical system to save lives. To donate directly to bringing family doctors into our territorial practice and do it yesterday!

Could the city just focus on city issues? I realize you’re above them, Laura. But it’s best you pass the torch to someone who isn’t using city council as a steppingstone to “greatness.” I guess with a 13% mandate, you’re just not ready yet so it’s up to the rest of us to patiently wait until you are. On with it. Either you transcend the menial job of mayor, or start serving the city. Nobody needs daffodils or your impotent views on Ukraine.

The last line makes this article read like an April Fool's joke.
By the way, horse paste has promising anti-carcinogenic properties. That's not a joke, nor is it health advice.

More fluff. There is zero substance to this Mayor. Does not tackle the issues at hand. Should go places as a Liberal.

Narcissus: Waiting for them to declare Daffy Duck day. Now, that'll be a real celebration.

I used to donate to cancer research years ago, until I realized they were not looking for a cure, but only treatments. And over the last 50 years, they haven't found any new viable treatments - still using the same ones for the last 50 years. And they are painful and don't really solve the problem. I have a friend now who took them and now quit them and just decided to die without treatment. He's on painkillers that help somewhat. When the medical scientists convince me they are looking for a cure, I will consider donating.

Lol! A lawyer, and a politician talking about daffodils… Both are members of the narcissus family. Send mayor and council a bunch. Let’s really support cancer research while sending a message to these administrators of the gong show - … Send them lots.

Nothing against this campaign, but the city is going to run out of days and weeks and months to dedicate. Maybe they should spend a little more time worrying about their duties and less about making empty gestures.
