A 22-year-old Mayo man has been charged with murder following an incident last weekend.

Last Sunday, officers from the Mayo detachment responded to a report of an injured 38-year-old man at the village’s health centre.

The victim’s identity is being withheld out of respect for the family, police said Monday afternoon. He was declared deceased shortly after officers arrived.

Later that day, the 22-year-old Mayo man was arrested.

Daniel Cashaback-Myra has been charged with second-degree murder. He will appear in territorial court in Whitehorse on Jan. 27.

The police investigation is being led by the Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit, with support by multiple Yukon RCMP detachments/units, and the office of the Yukon’s chief coroner.

Police are asking anyone with information about the death to contact police at 867-862-2677 or visit the Mayo detachment.

Well skateboarding and smoking bongs certainly didn't help out this young punk. Send him to jail for a long time. He's an angry little danger jack in need of serious rehabilitation for committing murder. Somebody is dead because of Daniel's effed up life. Hold Daniel accountable!! RIP to the victim and his family.

It's time the communities start to make changes and kick these users and dealers out. They think they're dealers cause they sell drywall mixed up with a little powder to our kids, go to Mexico and see how long u last.
STOP IGNORING WHATS HAPPENING. u can tell who's involved by the sunk in faces, ring around the eyes, skin and bones, hoody over head!!!!!

@opinion, maybe when you get off your high horse you will see people are in pain, this is a tragedy, not some opportunity for you to judge folks from afar. My condolences to the family

Nothing will change until the people that live in these communities say enough and push for change. Both locally and at the courts.
