Masks now optional in schools

While there has yet to be a formal announcement from the Yukon government, masks are now optional in territorial schools.
An email was sent to Yukon parents by assistant deputy minister Ryan Sikkes this morning stating:
“As we enter the final stretch of this school year, I am writing to you to provide an update on mask use in schools.
“Over April and May, health officials have monitored COVID-19 cases in the territory. Through this monitoring, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health has found we are at a stage in the pandemic where mandatory masks in schools are no longer required.
“Starting on Tuesday, May 24, mask use in all areas of schools and on school buses will be optional for students and staff.”
In the email, Sikkes added, “While this is an encouraging step to returning to life before the pandemic, all students, staff and families should continue to use caution and take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in schools and our communities.”
Parents are also advised:
• Practise the safe six: make sure you continue to wash your hands regularly, physically distance where possible and stay home when you are sick.
• Mask use: students and staff can choose to use masks as another layer of protection.
• Outdoor and on-the-land learning: as the weather gets nicer, schools are taking their learning outdoors.
• Outdoor and on-the-land learning opportunities are a great way to provide valuable learning while reducing the spread of COVID-19.
“We encourage students and staff to take their learning, recess and lunch breaks to the outdoors.”
• Get vaccinated: “We continue to recommend that all eligible students get vaccinated as another valuable layer of protection.”

So, we will expect to see cases skyrocket in 2 weeks from now, correct? That was the justification for denying children their rights? Even though for two years we knew that school mask mandates made no significant impact.
" There have also been numerous additional US and international observational studies finding no significant effect of school mask mandates on pediatric cases."

It has been repeatedly emphasized that the antidote to trauma, loss, addictions is CONNECTION not isolation.
Will there ever be a public inquiry? Will there ever be an apology made to our children and Elders for what was done to them?

@Mitch
I think you mean “drink to” - not “drink too”
And don’t worry - if vaccinated people are going to lose their immune systems you’ll hear about it. We’re talking +90% of North Americans here - including all your favorite politicians (the Yukon Party members, Pierre Polievre etc) - we’re all gonna be dead.
You guys should be excited! Only 10% of humans are going to be left alive! And you’ll be part of this new society! Your time to finally shine!
Sounds like a fantasy people are telling themselves. It was supposed to be within a year of receiving the “gene therapy”. What gives? Why keep pushing it down the road? Is the vaccine laying dormant inside my body waiting years before turning itself on and wrecking my immunity?
The same people predicting immune system shut down in the vaccinated “sometime” in the future are also predicting that kids who wore masks in school are going to all have health issues “sometime” in the future.
We see you. We see you making claims that you won’t be around to discuss years from now when it’s shown you’re wrong :)
It’s transparent what you’re doing. And it’s amusing.
What hobby are you going to take up next year once you can’t get mad about covid anymore and the world keeps passing you by?
Getting mad at potholes just won’t have the same ego boosting endorphins anymore after all this covid rage…

@Yukoner1: Better get used to it. I know several people dealing weekly with this Gov and they tell me they can't believe anything they're told 'cause they lie all the time.

@ Roy - please let us know when your immune system shuts down. I need something to drink too.

Hi Roy. When this mess all started, I believe the tinfoil brigade were guestimating "three years". Hey, remember the other one about vaxed airline pilots? OMG! Anyway, I trust you, like me, will make this summer one to remember since it's really a matter of time now according to the network of Google researchers. Get your affairs in order, pronto!

Now, if only competence was optional or even common in government, we would be getting somewhere.

GOOD. Now promise them this will not happen to them again in their primary education or we are going to have a problem!

“We got what we demanded. And we’re not happy about it! No, we don’t have any other hobbies other than complaining in an echo chamber in order to score endorphin boosting thumbs up from other curmudgeons who have also watched success pass them by through every fault of their own.”
As for damage I’m still waiting on my immune system to shut down from the covid “gene therapy” vaccine. Anyone have an updated prediction of when we will start seeing this in 90% of Canadians? We’ve already blown by the first half dozen predictions.

Finally the "mask drops". It's so long past time.
Also past time to drop the rest of the stupid requirements, including "safe 6", and the unhealthy fixation on vaccinating children.

Two years with our children being forced to wear masks. Who will take responsibility when in later years those same kids, now grown up, will develop serious immunity or other physical problems?

I guess assistant deputy minister Ryan Sikkes was too busy to call the press and make the announcement and give himself a 3 days buffer. Smart guy, working for a smart cookie. Now, if the CMO left the job weeks ago, who's doing the advising?

"Over April and May, health officials have monitored COVID-19 cases in the territory"
How? The Whitehorse Star published this article:
https://www.whitehorsestar.com/News/covid-19-is-alive-and-well
not a week earlier. Since the government is no longer tracking cases, how do they know what they're monitoring? I don't disagree with removing masking in schools, but also don't like being lied to about it.

SO, we now have a positive for our children, yet they still throw in the narrative..."get vaxed, distancing, wash your hands, yada, yada, yada. ENOUGH! Give these kids a break. NO MORE OF THIS BS. Let them be what they are, children. So many kids have had enough. Summer is upon us, let the kids breath, enjoy the sunshine, go to the park, camp. It's their turn. LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE!
