There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding a man's sudden death outside the Salvation Army on Christmas morning, RCMP Sgt. Don Rogers said today.
While the investigation into the death of 56-year-old Victor Bill is ongoing, Rogers said, right now there is nothing to suggest foul play was a factor.
Bill overnighted at the Salvation Army.
He was last seen going out for a cigarette at 6 a.m., fully dressed for the - 4 C temperature, Rogers said.
He said at approximately 6:50, a staff member found Bill on the steps in an unresponsive state.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and performed CPR on Bill.
He was then transported to Whitehorse General Hospital but was later pronounced dead, Rogers explained.
He said Bill was a member of the Little-Salmon Carmacks First Nation.
Bill's family, Eddie Skookum, the chief of the First Nation, and Grand Chief Ruth Massie of the Council of Yukon First Nations have all been notified.
Yukon coroner Sharon Hanley, who released Bill's identity this morning, said his body has been flown to Vancouver for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
