Whitehorse RCMP are asking for the public's help as they investigate a robbery that happened late Saturday night at the Casa Loma Motel.

The RCMP were called to the Centennial Street motel's bar at around 11:15 p.m. after a bar employee called 911.

Employees and patrons reported two individuals came in – one wearing an ATV helmet and the other a balaclava.

They approached the bartender, demanding money from the cash register, police said this morning.

"The bartender was pushed to the ground and the suspects grabbed a handful of cash from the register before fleeing,” police said.

"No weapons were used in this incident and the bartender was not injured.”

Police are now looking for two male suspects, believed to be in their 20s.

One is described as being five feet, seven inches tall and weighing about 160 lbs. He was wearing a black hoodie.

The other suspect is described as about five feet, three inches to five feet, four inches tall, weighing 180 to 190 lbs. and wearing an olive green hoodie.

An ATV helmet was recovered at the scene.

Anyone with information about their identities is asked to call Whitehorse RCMP at 667-5551.

Did you know? on Apr 9, 2014 at 9:37 am

Did you know that you are not supposed to try to stop them? That's actually when people end up getting hurt, and you don't really know if they were unarmed, the didnt show a weapon but that doesn't mean one wasn't hiding one ready to shoot if someone tried to stop them. It would be nice if we could have a hero in every scenario but the fact is situations have escalated quickly and for the worse when people try to get involved and it had caused worse injury or even death to victims. Unless it is an immediate life or death to save someone scenario, you stay calm and quiet, take mental notes of everything small and big as they can be useful. Lock the door once the robbers have left, call the cops, give them everything you know and saw and let them do their jobs.

Something doesn't smell right. The robbers were not exactly big guys; they were unarmed; yet the the bartender and the patrons just stood by and watched these guys empty the cash register? Nobody tried to stop them? Guys under 5 ft 7 inches tall and under 200 lbs? Are you telling me that not one other guy in that bar was bigger than the perpetrators? Seems fishy to me.

When these bad guys are caught the punishment should involve buying free rounds to bar patrons for the trauma of seeing a robbery take place.

Once you have the offenders and prove their guilt, have them pay back the bar, satisfy the victims with suitable compensation, then provide the community with public service, identify them with photos so the offenders can feel a sense of guilt for their actions. Rights are not given they are earned......make sure their rights are restricted until compensation or amends are made to everyones satisfaction.

A bar full of people and two young unarmed guys....one is sadly short....and not a single soul in that place made a move to stop them? A part of me wishes I was there because I know I would have at least tried.
