A man who was assaulted with a machete outside a Whitehorse nightclub last weekend isn't co-operating with investigators, so police are left with information gleaned from security tapes and late-night revellers to identify the attacker.

The incident was reported just after midnight last Sunday, when a 27-year-old Whitehorse man was attacked while standing outside of Coasters, on Jarvis Street between Second and Third avenues.

The attacker used a machete – a cleaver-like cutting tool, commonly used to cut through underbrush – to cut the man's arm.

Witnesses reported seeing a large amount of blood in the aftermath, the stain from which was still visible on the sidewalk the next day.

The man was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital by ambulance, stitched up and released, according to police.

Investigators believe the two men know each other but the victim has refused to provide a statement about the incident.

"So we're relying on surveillance videos and eyewitness statements,” RCMP spokesman Sgt. Don Rogers said Tuesday.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the detachment or make a tip anonymously to the Crimestoppers tip line.

If we all carried weapons no one would bother anyone. It works in lots of other countries that are as "free" as us.

Dont bring a knife to a gun fight

Okay dirty squirrel or whatever you're calling yourself - I don't know where you've been brushing up on the issues City Council deals with, but you'll never, ever even have a chance of affecting change on this issue from a seat on City Council.

Your intentions are noble but your sense of reality is way off base.

Your knowledge of civic politics seems pretty slim. Let us know your real name so we'll know not to vote for you.

I suppose you plan on bringing about world peace and ending climate change from your council seat as well...? Dream on!!

Squirell Dirt or Dirt Squire

are you all there??

Your running for council and yet you cant even get your name right. Nay on your vote for city council

Having worked as a bouncer in a local bar in town for a period of time, i strongly believe it is up to the owner of the establishment to provide effective security on his property. In my view when i was a bouncer, you were hired if you were over 6'2. they dont care about criminal checks or if you do drugs. If we had some decent bouncers in our bars, not ones that actually deal drugs, maby things would start to turn around

This town became this way when so many people moved into this town from down south and turned it into a mini Toronto. Just go ask the hippies with roof racks, they will be happy to elaborate, lol.

This type of violence is not new to the Yukon or Whitehorse.

With the newly settled western drug gangs and the local factions of hate/crime, some sort of atrocity was bound to occur.

I truly wish the RCMP were able to enforce these groups more thoroughly, but so far it does not seem that they are doing a commendable job.

I intend to run on city council, and these types of issues will be my platform.

I seek stricter rulings on drug crimes, public violence, and repeat offenses.

Those with me, please respond to my comment: Yay or nay!

Thank you

Jesus, this type of atrocious violence has been taking place in the Yukon for awhile, with the western drug gangs moving north and the native "squads" taking territory, it was bound to make mainstream news eventually.

I truly wish the RCMP would enforce and defend alot better - everyone knows how many drug dealers we have at the moment - but I understand it is rather hard to stand up against whispers and allegations.

I intend on dealing with this particular problem should I be elected to council.

Please say yes or nay in accordance to how you would vote on this subject.

Thank You

Thomas Brewer: I think most of us know the answer to your question, but Canada's new hate law won't let us mention it.

Unreal... since when did Whitehorse welcome brutal criminals like this? Step up the policing of the popular nightclubs or we'll end up with a situation that will escalate out of control in a hurry.
