A Whitehorse man has been sentenced to another 10 months in jail and is under a court order not to drive for five years.

Territorial court Judge Karen Ruddy handed down the term to Thorin Mullin last Friday.

She did so after Mullin entered guilty pleas last Wednesday to evading police, driving while disqualified, the dangerous operation of a vehicle and resisting arrest.

Further charges of impaired driving, assault with a weapon and mischief over $5,000 to an RCMP vehicle were stayed.

The sentence was handed down less than a month after charges were laid following a Sept. 13 police blockade at the Swan Haven Road, about 40 kilometres south of Whitehorse.

At the time, RCMP had pursued a vehicle going north on the Alaska Highway near Marsh Lake.

Police eventually ended the chase due to public safety concerns, but another motorist reported a suspicious vehicle turning into the Swan Haven Road.

Police vehicles then blocked the road, with one of the RCMP cars eventually being rammed.

Court documents state Mullin resisted arrest by fighting and struggling.

Ruddy handed down a concurrent term of nine months for evading police and the dangerous operation of a vehicle, a sentence of one month for driving while disqualified to be served following the nine months and another one day deemed served for resisting arrest.

In handing down the sentence, Ruddy gave Mullin credit for his time in remand custody since his arrest.

The five-year driving prohibition began last Friday.
