A Winnipeg man was sentenced Friday to four years and 11 months in jail for two counts of the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

Devin Kyle Patrick Edmiston, 29, was sentenced to four years and 11 months for each of the two counts, to be served concurrently.

He was also sentenced to one count of the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, to be served concurrently.

In July 2020, Edmiston was driving on the Alaska Highway near the Lewes River Bridge south of Whitehorse when he pulled out to pass a vehicle at about 3:40 p.m.

He collided with a motorcycle being driven by Travis Adams, 43, of Whitehorse.

Adams was killed, as was Nicole Sanderson, a 47-year-old Winnipeg resident who was travelling with Edmiston in the rear passenger seat of the car.

The judge’s reasons for sentencing were not available this morning.

Edmiston pulled out to pass the vehicle in front of him, which was heading in the same direction.

The two vehicles made contact.

It appeared that both vehicles lost control and Edmiston’s overtaking vehicle swerved across the highway, colliding with Adams’ oncoming motorcycle.

Edmiston will serve his jail term in Manitoba.

Hmmm...message?
A human life has very little value, much less two humans.
Clearly on our own here folks, courts give nearly zero F’s.

Engineered chaos, state funded and sanctioned even...is humming along.

5 years seems too little for the carnage he caused, but given the light sentences being handed out the last few years, I suppose we should be happy with this.
