Christopher Jonathan Dale Cornell has been charged with robbery with an offensive weapon and wearing a disguise with the intent of committing a crime.
He was scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
RCMP received a call at 9:58 p.m. from the attendant at the station along Hamilton Boulevard notifying them of the crime, says a press release issued this morning.
Cornell was arrested in the McIntyre subdivision at 11:10 p.m.
RCMP Cpl. Grant MacDonald said the robber held up the clerk using a knife and a can of bear spray.
A staff member at the business recently explained how frustrated staff are with the criminal activity in the area, after being held up by a shotgun in mid-March.
He also suggested that part of the problem was the failure of the RCMP to keep the public fully aware of the crime going on in the area.
No charges have been laid in the March robbery, though police are still actively investigating, MacDonald said.
He commended the gas station attendant for acting so quickly in contacting the police.
'This is another example of how citizens can play a key role in helping the RCMP get criminals off the street and ensure our communities and neighbourhoods are safe,' reads the press release.
