An arrest has been made in connection to a Carmacks homicide committed earlier this year.
RCMP say Tyler Aaron Skookum, 27, was arrested at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Whitehorse.
He has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide of Wilfred “Dickie” Charlie, 57.
Skookum was expected to make his first court appearance on the charge late this morning in territorial court in Whitehorse.
Charlie was reported missing in Carmacks by family members on June 19. He had last been seen at his home at around 3:00 that morning and was believed to have fallen in the Yukon River.
Following his disappearance, an extensive ground and water search was conducted by RCMP officers, Police Dog Service and Yukon Search and Rescue.
Charlie’s family, friends and Carmacks community members also assisted in the search.
On July 5, Charlie’s body was discovered by Yukon College staff and students at the Huchá Hudän Field School near Fort Selkirk.
Findings from an autopsy conducted at Vancouver General Hospital determined that his death was the result of a homicide.
Charlie was the fifth homicide victim in the Yukon this year. Following his death, there have been two more murders in Whitehorse.
One other person has been charged in relation to a homicide committed this year.
Edward James Penner, 20, is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection to the death of Adam Cormack, 25.
He was arrested on July 2, four days after Cormack’s body was found north of the Old Alaska Highway.

There could be reasons this happened. No one knows the whole story unless you live in that community and know these people personally.

Even if he is convicted of what he has allegedly done, 2nd degree murder.
Our legal system clearly states he and his brethren are special as it pertains to being sentenced.
The sheer volume of violence in such a beautiful place, the epic enabling ensuring it continue, the political correctness approach to alleged “justice”,
truly does blow my mind!
The very fact that I could even cite a legal legislated factoid as the above paragraph being omnipresent in our kangaroo courts, is redefining shameful....in my mere opinion.

@groucho
"Second degree murder...either you killed somebody or you didn't". I'm sorry that second degree murder is too fuzzy and confusing for you. Second degree murder does in fact mean it is alleged he killed someone. Just means he didn't plan it for a year before hand.
Police don't close a murder investigation in half hour like they do on tv and there are 30 comments condemning useless cops. Police charge someone in a homocide and not a one saying good work. Typical.

"...charged with second-degree murder..." There is too much fuzzy in our legal system. Either you killed somebody or you did not. Accidental death resulting from a conflict is another matter entirely.
