A man has been hospitalized after falling eight metres and landing on a concrete floor while dismantling the mill at the Sa Dena Hes mine site.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Richard Mostyn, a spokesperson for the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board, said today.

The worker, whose name has not been released, was medevaced to Vancouver, where he remains in hospital, Mostyn said.

Occupational health and safety officers visited the site, located 70 km north of Watson Lake along the Robert Campbell Highway, on Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing.

The board could not release any further details, including information regarding the worker's condition.

Sa Dena Hes, a lead-zinc mine, began production in August 1991, but stalled in November 1992 due to low mineral prices.

During its 14 operational months, the mine produced 607,500 tonnes of concentrate.

Reclamation work began in 2013 and is expected to be complete in 2015.
