A Teslin man is facing numerous firearms charges after a gun was fired early Sunday morning.
Teslin RCMP were called at 3:38 a.m. about a gun going off and a possible hostage-taking at a secluded cabin north of Teslin, police said Monday afternoon.
Detachment officers immediately called on the territory's Emergency Response Team to assist with the situation, police said.
While waiting for the ERT team to arrive, detachment officers did surveillance on the area.
When they got to the scene at 6:25 a.m,. ERT members surrounded the area and found a woman safe and unharmed at a cabin on the property, 'M' division Sgt. Roger Lockwood said this morning.
She was in a separate building from where the property owner was.
The owner of the property left the residence and was arrested without incident, RCMP said.
There was no one else on the property at the time.
The shots fired came following a shouting match between the owner of the property and people in a trailer at the site. The man, woman and three children immediately left and called police.
No one was injured and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, police said.
Teslin RCMP later executed a search warrant and seized five firearms including rifles and shot guns and a large amount of ammunition.
Roy Mack Smith, 51, is charged with pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.
More charges are pending, police said.
Smith made his first court appearance Monday, with a bail hearing set for Wednesday.
Teslin RCMP are continuing to investigate the situation.
