Gerald Brown, a member of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations council, has been charged with sexual assault.

According to Yukon Supreme Court documents, Brown is charged with sexually assaulting someone on June 15.

He has selected a trial by a Supreme Court judge alone, meaning there would be no jury.

Brown is set to appear in court again on Aug. 5.

Veteran Whitehorse defence lawyer Edward Horembala will represent Brown.

The accused's bail conditions include no direct or indirect contact with the complainant and a ban on leaving the territory without permission from his bail supervisor.
