A 34-year-old Yukon man is dead following a traffic accident off the Alaska Highway early Sunday morning.
His identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
Two passengers a 20-year-old male and 28-year-old female, both of Whitehorse were also taken to Whitehorse General Hospital.
There, they were treated and released for minor injuries, said Whitehorse RCMP Cpl. Tom Wyers.
Police were called at around 12:40 a.m. Sunday to the single-vehicle crash, about nine kilometres west of the North Klondike and Alaska highways intersection.
They found that a 1984 Ford Tempo travelling west on the Alaska Highway had lost control, skidded off the road and into a ditch, where it rolled several times before coming to a stop, said Wyers.
The driver died due to the head injuries sustained in the crash.
The two passengers were forced to wait in the remote location for about an hour before another driver came by and helped, with the temperature at about -25 C.
Wyers said police are advising all drivers in the territory to be sure to be prepared for such an emergency by carrying an emergency kit and winter clothing in the vehicle, especially when travelling through rural areas in the winter.
Drivers should also be sure to buckle up and drive according to road conditions, he added.
