Man charged with drug, weapon possession

A witness’ tip to police about an erratic driver

A witness’ tip to police about an erratic driver has led to a young man being charged with possessing drugs and a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.

At 4:50 p.m. last Sunday, a witness called Whitehorse RCMP about a Hyundai Elantra driving erratically on Hamilton Boulevard, heading toward Two Mile Hill.

Police located the car downtown, and arrested the driver, a 20-year-old man.

Whitehorse RCMP Const. Dean Hoogland said Monday a roadside sobriety test was done. Police also demanded a blood sample, which has been sent to the lab for testing.

Depending on the results, the man may also face an impaired driving charge.

The investigation is ongoing.

Hoogland said he hopes the public continues to report any sightings of suspected impaired drivers.

“It is a very serious crime,” he said. “Anyone could get hurt.”

What? Legalize impaired driving and concealed carry?
Are you out of your mind?

Our impaired driving laws don't seem to be effective; our laws against carrying a concealed weapon also don't seem to be working...
maybe we should legalize them?
