The fallout from the multiple shootings in Faro last autumn continues to be felt.
The fallout from the multiple shootings in Faro last autumn continues to be felt.
The Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit (MCU) has arrested an individual on alleged weapons-related offences in Faro as part of the ongoing homicide investigation that began after the shootings there in October 2021.
Saengduean Honchaiyaphum, 42, and Patrick McCracken, 73, were fatally shot.
Last Wednesday, Rory Patrick McGivern, 56, of Faro, was arrested, police said today.
McGivern has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
• Possession of a loaded restricted firearm;
• Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition readily accessible;
• Firearm trafficking;
• Ammunition trafficking;
• Transfer of a firearm without authority; and
• Transfer of ammunition without authority.
McGivern has been released on conditions, with his first court appearance scheduled for July 6.
“Mr. McGivern is the second person arrested as part of the investigation into the shooting incident in Faro in October 2021,” police said.
“Ralph Bernard Shaw, age 62, of Faro, was arrested on Oct. 26, 2021, and has been in custody since his initial arrest related to charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault.”
The latest charges relate to the alleged provision of a weapon to Shaw, though there is no suggestion anyone knew of any plans for violence in advance, police said.

At this point in time, where is Mr Shaw. Is he being held? Has he been charged and in jail? Psychiatric facility?

Anything else professor? Any other post rationalizations you would substitute with facts for your narrative today? You will live your life in fear, even in a gun-less Canada, as long as we live. But that is your decision, not mine. Being afraid of your own shadow is nobodies' problem but yours and the world doesn't owe you a god damned thing.

"How about the hundreds of left wings coddled special interest group people who shoot and kill each other each and every week in Americas inner cities like Chiraq and east LA?"
What are you even talking about? What coddled special interest group and what is their ideology? You need to be more specific if you expect a response.

Every time I read comments posted here I am reminded of something the Bertram Russell said “The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent full of doubt”.
The only problem with that is that stupid people think of themselves as geniuses

Hey nut job. How about the hundreds of left wings coddled special interest group people who shoot and kill each other each and every week in Americas inner cities like Chiraq and east LA? Oh I forgot we’re not supposed to mention them because they don’t fit the rabid lefts agenda do they?

You hit the nail on the head woodcutter. The murderer was posting all sorts of memes about guns and freedoms and how the Liberals were evil, etc., etc. So I wouldn't be surprised if this guy now being charged was of the same mindset.
When right wing nut jobs post about how unhinged and crazy they are, we need to start believing them. People who act tough and dare the police to come for their guns (with the implication that they will use their weapons against police) are EXACTLY the people who should not have access to firearms of any kind. The authorities need to stop brushing it off and saying it's just conservatives expressing their beliefs. These guys are ticking time bombs. Just look at the recent racist who massacred black people in Buffalo because he believed in that stupid conservative 'white replacement' theory.

The shooter was not a law abiding gun owner. Keep the spin going though. Canadian gun laws are among the most strict in the world. It is obvious that the law was not applied correctly. The RCMP should have been doing a risk assessment on both the individuals involved. They should have known.
But hey, when you have judges who impose firearms bans on violent offenders, for life even, and then some other judge comes along and provides an exemption for FN peoples for cultural reasons it’s hard to take the laws seriously.
This laxness in judgment is contagious. Soon the application of the law becomes something that is applied disequitably as people say things like, that’s just so-and-so spouting off about… He’s harmless etc.
It’s effing disgusting! I can tell you lots of similar stories from the Yukon and elsewhere that would raise the hairs on your neck. Many of the people responsible for this shyt are still in their jobs doing a shytty JOB! If I were your neighbour you would be a lot safer.
A lot of this is public information but the Star won’t reprint and investigate public knowledge that would shed light on the insanity of our Justice system - A public entity responsible for great harms against the public trust because it acts contrary to risk analysis - Saying things like, risk is not certainty and therefore he/she/they should be given the benefit of the doubt.
However, your demonstrated lack of knowledge and insight suggest that you would be a dangerous neighbour to have around… Perhaps the sort of neighbour who lets the propane leak on their barbecue become an explosive hazard capable of levelling a city block or two…
Ralph Shaw was a known potential and should have been dealt with accordingly. But hey… Community policing…
Do you read with the intent to understand or with the intent to respond?

@ extensional
it's obvious that the lax Canadian gun laws are not working as the said alleged murderer had plenty signs of being unhinged, if his face book posts are to be taken as an indication of moving into the unhinged and lack of emotional intelligence. You can see lots of these threats being kicked around by gun kooks even to this day that spouted off the same rhetoric.
Are all law abiding Gun owners at risk of having their cheese slip from their crackers and becoming multiple murder suspect? No of course not, but when folks are spouting about assassinating elected officials, then for sure their privilege should be revoked. I know a few gun nutz that scare me that they have that lethal power and judging from their behaviour both in the real world and online that there is no enforcement of the current laws on the books.
Technically your view is that all gun owners are law abiding, right until they are not? Glad your not my neighbour, or are you? Scary stuff.

“though there is no suggestion anyone knew of any plans for violence in advance”
Ummmm, what? Right, so how does that work exactly? Does anyone ask to borrow an illegal firearm to go target shooting? If the killing had been done with a borrowed garden tool, sure. Willful negligence causing death is not the same as innocence. In my opinion, the accused in this matter was an accomplice with special knowledge of an impending criminal act, not an unwitting dupe. Playing dumb works a little too well in our ‘justice’ system.

Snowball, Amunition trafficking is when gun kook buys amunition for another gun kook, who is not allowed to have a gun cause said gun kook was convictrd for a crime where the judge removed his privilage to possess guns, however he got guns from the underground network of gun kooks.
Stay tuned as this should be an interesting storey that unfolds. Will he roll over on his buddies to save his skin. They always do. I bet he blames Trudeau for all that is wrong in his life.
I wonder who he voted for?

Law abiding gun owner? Obviously not. Try picking some fruit higher up in the tree. Them apples you’re currently grappling have pawed and licked by many others… Yet there they remain, uneaten… Hmmm…
This is evidence that the existing gun laws work when applied correctly to a given situation. No need to take away guns from law abiding citizens… But hey, when all you got is a hammer everything starts to look like a nail. Maybe go find some salt and give that a pounding!

So one guy did the shooting (killing) nets 3 charges and another guy who was the firearm source (?) gets charged 8 times?
That seems to be what I read here. I am not sure what I think until I see this all play out but I bet the worst criminal isn't the killer in the law's eyes.
