The River View Hotel was evacuated in the wee hours of Sunday morning after a fire was reported in one of the rooms.

No one was injured.

Whitehorse RCMP Cpl. Jeff Myke said today the nearby Paddy’s Place opened its doors to guests so they could stay warm while the fire department investigated.

A 56-year-old Whitehorse man was arrested at the scene, and has been charged with arson and mischief to property over $5,000.

Reported at 2:45 a.m., the fire was contained to one room and quickly extinguished.

Myke said the incident is still under investigation and the cause has yet to be determined.

The number of people removed from the hotel was not immediately known.
