A man has been charged in relation to a robbery with a weapon after the RCMP arrested him Monday evening in downtown Whitehorse.
At approximately 7 p.m., police received a call from a man who said he had been robbed by a man in possession of an edged weapon.
Frontline officers and the Yukon RCMP Police Dog Service immediately sped to the area. They located the suspect within a few minutes, based on the description provided by the victim.
Jason Harper, 49, was arrested without incident, police said Thursday.
Harper was held for a first court appearance on Tuesday, and was released by the courts.
He has been charged with robbery and disobeying a court order.
“No one was physically injured in this incident, but that does not reduce the seriousness of the offence,” said Sgt. Dustin Grant, the acting Whitehorse RCMP detachment commander.
“Community safety was top of mind for the police, who responded to this call, which resulted in the arrest of the accused.”
Although police have attended several high-risk calls for service recently in the downtown area, they do not believe the incident is linked to other recent arrests or investigations.
