Major tourism project set to be announced

The unveiling of a new Yukon River tourism business involving the private sector and four Yukon first nations is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
In a press release issued Monday, Great River Journey Inc. announced its partners will be holding the launch to lay out its plans.
Though relatively quiet on the budding business to date, the company undertook a cabin construction program in the Marwell area last year that involved prefabricating guest cabins.
While brand new, the cabins were constructed to appear crooked, as though the beholder was looking at a painting by Whitehorse artist Jim Robb.
'The company will offer a unique, exclusive, high-end, low-impact eight-day wilderness river tour,' reads the press release.
'This experience will combine the adventure of a world-class wilderness journey down the Yukon River with the opportunity for a personal journey of discovery into the wilderness, history and culture of one of the Earth's treasures the Yukon.'
The company is owned by private investors and the FNIC Development Corp., comprised of the Ta'an Kwach'an Council of Lake Laberge, the Kwanlin Dun First Nation of Whitehorse, the Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation of Dawson City and the Selkirk First Nation of Pelly Crossing.
It's also expected representatives of the Yukon and federal governments will be at Wednesday's launch to express their support for the business, says the release.
As well, more specific details about the proposal are expected tomorrow.
The release does say Great River Journey plans introductory tours this summer.
'This partnership is a fine example of the progression of the first nations as key players in the Yukon's economy,' Judy Gingell, a spokeswoman for FNIC and a former commissioner of the Yukon and chair of the Council of Yukon First Nations, says in the press release.
The company's president, Whitehorse lawyer George Asquith, says: 'We are really excited to launch our project.
'We have been preparing and working towards the full launch of our business for some time. Now is the time . . . .'
