Major changes set for COVID management

COVID-19 self-isolation facilities and the local testing and assessment centre will be closed, the Yukon government has announced.

By Whitehorse Star on November 14, 2022

COVID-19 self-isolation facilities and the local testing and assessment centre will be closed, the Yukon government has announced.

As well, its online COVID information “dashboard” will also be decommissioned.

The government has released Charting the Course: Living with and managing COVID-19, which includes next steps that will guide the Yukon’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

Last Thursday’s release came on the same day Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, stressed the importance of indoor masking as the triple threat of COVID, seasonal influenza and the childhood illness of RSV continues to ramp up in many parts of the country, overwhelming hospitals.

This morning, Ontario’s top doctor formally recommended that masks be worn in all public spaces, including schools and day cares.

“As the territory and the rest of the world continues to shift from an acute stage response to learning to live with COVID-19, Charting the Course outlines a sustainable approach to managing COVID-19 while protecting vulnerable populations and supporting Yukoners’ well-being,” the Yukon government said last Thursday.

“The updated approach reflects the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, including new variants that lead to less severe outcomes, the availability of safe and effective vaccines, high vaccination rates and the availability of treatments that lessen the severity of COVID-19.”

Effective last Thursday, the government changed its self-isolation guidance to align with other illnesses.

“Yukoners who have symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 should continue to stay home while symptomatic,” it said.

“However, the requirement to isolate for a specified number of days has been removed. As a result of this change, self-isolation facilities will close on December 16, 2022.”

The COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre will close this Friday.

Testing is no longer routinely recommended for Yukoners with COVID-19 symptoms unless indicated by a health care provider in a clinical assessment.

“Confirmatory lab-based PCR testing remains available for those who need it for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes such as for access to Paxlovid,” the government said.

“Yukoners are encouraged to work with their health care provider, local health care centre or emergency department to discuss the need for testing and treatment.”

Yukoners can also call the Yukon HealthLine at 811 to access 24-hour health advice from registered nurses or use the self-assessment tool online to see if an assessment from a health care provider is required.

At-home rapid tests continue to be available. Yukoners can pick up at-home testing kits from participating locations across the territory.

“Regardless of taking a test or not, people are strongly encouraged to stay home if they are feeling sick,” the government said.

“The Paid Sick Leave Rebate program continues to help Yukoners prioritize their health and reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

The rebate for employers and people who are self-employed provides up to 10 days’ wages for workers who are sick with COVID-19.

“Some settings may continue requiring public health measures and isolation periods to protect vulnerable Yukoners,” the government said.

“This includes long-term care homes, health centres and Yukon hospitals. Yukoners are asked to respect public health measures in these locations as well as those in rural communities, businesses, organizations and other public settings.”

Vaccination remains the best way for Yukoners to protect themselves, their loved ones and communities from severe outcomes related to COVID-19, the government said.

“Vaccines and booster shots remain available throughout the territory. The government will continue to integrate the latest COVID-19 vaccinations into existing immunization programs throughout the territory.”

As part of the government’s shift toward “a more sustainable public health response,” the government said, the online COVID-19 dashboard will be decommissioned.

Historical data will remain available through the open data portal.

“Recognizing the success of the dashboard model, work is underway to develop a new public health information dashboard that will be available on Yukon.ca starting mid-December,” the government said.

Dr. Sudit Ranade, the chief medical officer of health, is also exploring new ways to support First Nations governments, municipalities and stakeholders with discussions, clinical guidance and advice relating to COVID-19 and other public health matters.

“For many months, we have been learning to live with COVID-19 as part of our everyday lives,” said Health and Social Services Minister Tracy Anne McPhee.

“Yukoners have done an exceptional job throughout the pandemic following public health guidance and doing their part by getting vaccinated. It’s now time to shift our response to ensure we have the tools we need to live with COVID-19 as part of our day to day lives.

“I encourage Yukoners to stay up to date on all vaccines and boosters, stay home when sick and respect each other’s personal health decisions as we learn to live with COVID-19.”

Ranade said the territory is “at the point in the pandemic where our public health response must shift to a more sustainable approach.

“We will accomplish this by integrating vaccines, testing and surveillance into our existing systems and channels while continuing to support the health and well-being of all Yukoners.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of getting vaccinated and staying up to date on your boosters. It’s our best protection against the virus.

“If you have any questions about getting vaccinated, reach out to your health care provider to discuss your options,” Ranade advised.

Charting the Course: Living with and managing COVID-19 has been developed to replace Forging Ahead: The Yukon’s continuing response to COVID-19.

It considers the current COVID-19 situation locally, nationally and internationally.

Ranade will make recommendations to the government as needed.

The Public Health Emergency declaration remains in place so the government can respond quickly should a significant shift occur in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The declaration further maintains surge capacity by allowing Ranade to quickly acquire and mobilize operations including human resources, supplies and equipment.

Parents and caregivers can access updated stop light guidance to help determine whether a child should go to school, child care or return to regular activities.

Yukoners can pick up at-home testing kits from participating locations across the territory.

Dr. Michael Palmer and Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi at Doctors for Covid Ethics have set out what they deem “irrefutable proof of causality” that mRNA vaccines are causing vascular and organ damage. From studies and autopsy evidence the medical experts show:
mRNA vaccines don’t stay at the injection site but instead travel throughout the body and accumulate in various organs;
mRNA-based Covid vaccines induce long-lasting expression of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in many organs;
Vaccine-induced expression of the spike protein induces autoimmune-like inflammation;
Vaccine-induced inflammation can cause grave organ damage, especially in vessels, sometimes with deadly outcome.
They explain that autopsy evidence shows that “the strong expression of spike protein in heart muscle after vaccination correlates with significant inflammation and tissue destruction”. They add that “vaccine-induced vascular damage will promote blood clotting, and clotting-related diseases such as heart attack, stroke, lung embolism are very common in the adverse events databases”.
Details can be found in this comprehensive study of C0vid 'vaccine' data from countries around the world. In short: the positive effects quickly diminish, and the negative effects are cumulative with every shot.

@Anonymous
I suspect it's more than just the Pharma companies who are benefitting from continuing vaccine programs. I have heard rumour that a number of elected government officials are now shareholders in some of these companies. Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest? I mean aside from the insider trading issues too?
Let's see a commission study on that allegation

NVD still collecting rent though on Nov 17, 2022 at 4:37 pm

When are we going to stop renting the entire convention center from Northern Vision Development???? That's the big ticket item. How many people a day are showing up there for vaccines? There must be a lower cost solution!

The vaxxies seem awfully quiet these days. It wasn't so long ago the comments section was filled with malicious posters calling for unvaccinated people to be fired, denied medical treatment, and removed from society. I wonder what went wrong and why they stopped their crusade so suddenly. It's almost as if the whole 'get vaxxed to save grandma' narrative turned out to be totally false, and then got deleted from people's memories. I look at the UK data for case rates and it boggles the mind, the vaccines actually made things WORSE and this is very clear in the data. If a CMO speaks I tune out, it's just an endless stream of lies designed to syphon wealth from our taxes and it into the pockets of big pharma.

All grown up and cognitive on Nov 16, 2022 at 11:10 am

Grow up bleats a troll?
I disagree, morons speculating does do things!
Example many morons have been speculating on how obedience to the state can defeat germs.
Many other morons have speculated if we support the Liberal regime here or in Beijing 2.0 “you will be safe” “they are here for you...together”

So yeah morons that love licking liberal jackboots, speculating with serious cognitive impairment due to Kool-Aid chugging can affect outcome.
...troll, moron, or Liberal sycophant, congratulations you achieved a trifecta.

As soon as I realized that Covid had progressed from “we’re all going to die” from the government to “what a ghastly flu” from people who contracted it.. off came the mask that I just hated, and t took myself shopping, I hugged my children, I ate food my neighbor's kindly prepared..in other words, I lived my life and watched as the world, and my small world went crazy. One of my friends didn’t leave her house for a year, so afraid of Covid. While this article claims the gov is letting go, it’s really coming at us from a different direction. I hate them I learned how to hate from Trudeau..no one, no one can hate like Justin Trudeau.

We’re ALL ears and eyes to the research you bring as to whether vaccines or masks work. We’d all be super receptive to your brilliance. You know what you’ve been told.

Grow up. They need to bring back masking. Vaccines work. Science works. Stupid speculation by morons does nothing. But keep fighting the good fight in the comment section of a newspaper. I’m sure you will effect huge changes.

End all of this now. Remove those who forced this down our throats.

Why is it when I make an error at work I can be fired but these people are still collecting 46% of every $1 I earn.

no more mask mandates on Nov 15, 2022 at 12:42 am

Masks are medically effective only when worn by a person with respiratory infection symptoms. Masks can block the airborne particulates from their sneeze or cough. Masks should be worn only by sick people, and they should stay isolated at home until they are well.
For healthy persons masks are nothing but a virtue-signaling symbol of compliance with government whims and edicts.

"the online COVID-19 dashboard will be decommissioned."

85 percent of all ages are vaccinated in the Yukon. In November so far, 91 percent of cases are in vaccinated people. These results, even with the biassed testing that prioritizes the "vulnerable". i.e unvaccinated. I guess it is time to obfuscate the data just like other provinces did in August.

"the availability of safe and effective vaccines, high vaccination rates and the availability of treatments that lessen the severity of COVID-19."
Treatments. What a novel idea. I am curious what these treatments might be and would like to hear more about them. I see Paxlovid mentioned, which is experimental, expensive, and contains an HIV treatment. What else, if anything, is being used?

Thank you truckers!
