Snowboard shop Boardstiff was broken into sometime this morning.

“Whitehorse RCMP were notified around 7:45 a.m., of damage to windows at Boardstiff,” said Whitehorse RCMP spokesperson Const. Julia Fox.

“Considerable damage was done to the windows of the shop, and this matter is still under investigation.”

It is still unknown what exactly the thief took, general manager Jason Gendron told the Star.

The front window was broken and the thief or thieves took some of the products on display, Gendron explained.

As far as he can remember, it’s the first time Boardstiff has been broken into, he said.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the crime to contact them at 667-5555.

The break-in was the latest in a string of similar crimes which have impacted local businesses in recent weeks.

George: Hey! that happened to me! I got the robber on camera, knew who he was, a former employee of the place where I live. Got a witness who saw the thief loading his truck, and the RCMP said "Do you think he was just borrowing this stuff?". I knew where he was going, (to his Dad's house). That was in Sept. and to this date, they never got him. He is posting updated pictures to his FaceBook, I called the police (again), and the policeman said... "I haven't looked at that file in a long time". So, you are really right.. not only aren't RCMP interested in anything that doesn't make the news, but if it even did make it to court, the judicial system would let him off.. You can lead the police to the criminal but you can't make them put their donut down.

I bought a security camera a few years ago for less than $700.00 and it works fine. Its time businesses forked out a little money for security camera. Their insurance might even go down.

I love it... Cameras will do more than a well payed federal police force! The business will spend the money on cameras, clearly identify the people. Cops will come in and say " our investigators worked hard to find the culprits " ... Then the judicial system will give them probation and apologize for any harsh treatment. Is this getting repetitive to anyone but me?

Thanks whoever did this for doing your part to ruin our nice town, I hope you are satisfied when Whitehorse and especially main street becomes a place where business windows have to have bars on them and there are steel security doors rolled down overnight. That way instead of having a enjoyable evening walk or drive around town looking at all the nice storefronts all we'll see is security devices instead. Keep it up lowlifes.

How many more of these incidents must the city endure before we start placing closed circuit cameras downtown?
