Lots were snapped up quickly
There were 84 applications for the last 53 urban lots in the city and 31 applicants for the last six country residential lots near the Takhini Hot Springs Road.
There were 84 applications for the last 53 urban lots in the city and 31 applicants for the last six country residential lots near the Takhini Hot Springs Road.
John Cole, manager of client services with the territorial lands branch, said Tuesday all but six of the residential lots in Copper Ridge were successfully dished out during last Friday's land lottery.
The six will be held for two weeks from last Friday to see if any of 47 successful applicants will turn back their lots.
Any lots returned will be added to the six put into a lottery among local contractors for the lots.
Any lots left over from the contractors' lottery will be offered over the counter to those already sitting on a waiting list established through the lottery, Cole explained.
He said the urban lots, measuring from 6,953 square feet up to 10,764 square feet, sold for $54,000 up to $69,000, depending on size and location.
Under the lottery policy, said Cole, the government draws only the number of applicants equal to 1.5 times the number of lots available.
For the six Takhini Hot Springs lots, while there were 34 applications, only nine were drawn.
The rural lots were approximately three hectares in size, and ranged in price from $87,000 to $90,000.
If any of the six lots are turned back, they will be offered over the counter to those on the waiting list, he said.
There are no plans to have any more urban lots available this year.
City council will hold a vote May 31 to see if city residents want to proceed with the multi-year residential plan for the lower Porter Creek bench, and 100 or so more lots in a green space next to the Arkell subdivision.
It's hoped the first lower bench lots could be available in 2009 but nothing is firm with the Arkell lots.
Also on the books for urban planners are 100 or so lots in the Takhini North subdivision in a year or two, and the possibility of 280 or so lots in the controversial Yukon College endowment lands.
The Yukon government is planning to release 52 country residential lots sometime this summer as early as July or as late as September as phase one of the new Whitehorse Copper country residential subdivision.
The 58 phase two lots are expected next year. The lots range in size from one hectare to 1.8 hectares.
No price has been placed on the lots, as they're still under development.
